AMATEUR ANGLER FISHING CONTEST FINISHES 2007 SEASON
OCEAN CITY, MARYLAND..... The 2007 Amateur Angler Fishing Contest saw good participation by local and visiting anglers with more than 160 catch reports entered over the summer season. Weekly certificates were awarded for the biggest flounder, trout, bluefish, sea bass, rockfish and tautog.
This year the seasonal winners are rewarded for their efforts with a trophy donated by the Ocean City Marlin Club and gift certificates donated by the weigh stations. The Ocean City Marlin Club and the Ocean City Public Relations Office congratulates all the winners.

Congratulations to Oyster Bay Bait & Tackle for winning the “Super Scales Award” for the 2007 season. Also congratulations to Harbor Tackle for finishing the season in second place. This award was an addition to the Amateur Angler Contest and is given to the weigh station that hands in the most catch reports.
Sponsored by the Ocean City Marlin Club and the Ocean City Public Relations Office, the annual Amateur Angler Fishing Contest starts each Memorial Day and runs through Labor Day. The contest is open to all non-professional anglers who fish in the bay and ocean of Ocean City during the fifteen-week competition. All weekly winners will receive plaques and the seasonal winners will receive trophies.

OCEAN CITY, MARYLAND.....For the last time this season anglers cast their lines and reeled in winners for the Amateur Angler Fishing Contest. This contest is open to all visitors and local anglers. AKE Marine was the weigh station for the two winners this week. Ocean City resident Calvin Smack showed up with an 8-pound, 9-ounce rockfish. This striper was hooked in the Ocean City Inlet using a 14-pound line and live spot for bait.
Also arriving at AKE Marine was Robert Weaver of Joppa, MD with a 10-pound, 13-ounce flounder. This flattie was reeled in at the East Channel using a 15-pound line and spot for bait.

OCEAN CITY, MARYLAND.....The Amateur Angler Fishing Contest held the 13th week of competition awarding participants with weekly certificates for the largest flounder, trout, bluefish, sea bass, rockfish and tautog. This amateur contest is open to all visitors and local anglers. Week 13 saw winners in three categories.
AKE Marine was the weigh station for two winning catches this week.
The first winner to arrive was Chad Besaw of Hedgesville, WV with a 3-pound, 14-ounce sea bass. This fish was reeled in at the Natural Reef while fishing on the Morning Star using a 30-pound line and clams as bait.
AKE Marine also weighed the prize-winning flounder of 10-pounds, 8-ounces. This doormat was hooked at the Route 50 Bridge by Jennie E. Curry of Charleston, SC using a 10-pound line and spot as bait.
Spenser Sharp of Berlin, MD snagged a 2-pound, 9-ounce bluefish in the Ocean City Inlet using a 17-pound line and spot as bait. Harbor Tackle weighed this catch.

OCEAN CITY, MARYLAND.....Summer is in its prime and the fishermen are still casting their lines in the tenth week of the Amateur Angler Fishing Contest. This contest is open to all visitors and local anglers. Weekly certificates are awarded for the biggest catches in the six categories of flounder, bluefish, sea bass, rockfish, trout and tautog. This week saw winners in four categories.
This week saw a tie in the flounder category.
Arriving at Harbor Tackle with a winning flounder of 9-pounds was Matt Manos of Philadelphia, PA. This flattie was reeled in while fishing in the East Channel using a 14-pound line and minnow as bait.
The second winning flounder of 9-pounds was caught at the Thorofare by Ray A. Elicker of Red Lion, PA using a 12-pound braided line and a minnow/squid combination as bait. AKE Marine weighed this flattie.
Pulling in the largest rockfish this week at the Sea Wall was Timothy McKnight of Millersville, MD. McKnight used a 17-pound line and eel to hook the 18-pound, 10-ounce striper. This catch was weighed at the Oceanic Fishing Pier.
Using green crab as bait and a 30-pound line, Rachel Abbott of Stevensville, MD, reeled in the winning tautog weighing 14-pounds, 6-ounces while fishing at Russel’s Reef. AKE Marine weighed this prize.
Kent Faffensberger of York, PA caught and weighed his winning trout of 2-pounds at the Oceanic Fishing Pier. He used a 12-pound line and a special rig as bait.

Jaliyah Richardson of Sharon Hill, PA snagged an 8-ounce bluefish while fishing at the O.C. Fishing Pier. Richardson used squid as bait and O.C. Fishing Pier weighed this catch.

OCEAN CITY, MARYLAND.....Just about half the summer fishing season is completed. Fishermen continue casting their lines trying to be a winner in the Amateur Angler Fishing Contest. This contest is open to all visitors and local anglers. Weekly certificates are awarded for the biggest catches in the six categories of flounder, bluefish, sea bass, rockfish, trout and tautog. This week saw winners in three categories.
Dennis Eisenecker of Clearwater, FL hooked an 8-pound flounder at the Thorofare. This flattie took a minnow as bait and was weighed at AKE Marine.
The rockfish category was won by Bill Krider of Westminster, MD. This 17-pound striper was reeled in at the North Jetty using a 15-pound line and live eel as bait. Oyster Bay Tackle weighed this catch.
This week’s largest sea bass of 4 pounds, 12 ounces was snagged offshore by Robert Weller of Greencastle, PA while fishing on the Morning Star. Weller used a 40-pound line and clam as bait. The Ocean City Fishing Center was the weigh station.

OCEAN CITY, MARYLAND.....The warm waters of Ocean City were the hot spot once again this week as anglers all around the area baited their hooks and dropped their lines in hopes of catching a winner in the Ocean City Amateur Angler Fishing Contest. The Contest is open to all visitors and local anglers. Weekly certificates are awarded for the biggest catches in the six categories of flounder, bluefish, sea bass, rockfish, trout and tautog. This week saw winners in five categories.
Oyster Bay Tackle was busy this week weighing three winners.
The first to arrive was Dakota Bittner of Thurmont, MD with a 10-pound, 12-ounce striper. Bittner used a 16-pound line and eel as bait to hook this winner in the Ocean City Inlet.
John Barlow of New Castle, DE also weighed his winner at Oyster Bay Tackle. The 3-pound, 15-ounce flattie was reeled in using squid as bait while fishing on the Angler.
This week’s largest sea bass of 3-pounds, 1-ounce was the third winner to be weighed at Oyster Bay Tackle. Ashley Edelman of Warminster, PA reeled in this prize at an offshore wreck using a 20-pound line and a minnow/squid combination as bait.
The bluefish category was won this week by Michael Hackendorn of Middletown, DE. This 15-pound fish was caught at the Hambone using a 30-pound line and bally-hoo as bait. The Ocean City Fishing Center weighed this prize.
Russel’s Reef was the spot where Tom Johnson of Stevensville, MD hooked his winning 9-pound, 8-ounce tautog using a 50-pound line and fleas as bait. AKE Marine was the weigh station.

OCEAN CITY, MARYLAND.....Summer is taking off with great weather for fishing. The Amateur Angler Fishing Contest is open to all visitors and local anglers. Weekly certificates are awarded for the biggest catches in the six categories of flounder, bluefish, sea bass, rockfish, trout and tautog. This week saw winners in five categories.
Reeling in this week’s top flounder at the Route 50 Bridge was Joshua Powell of West Chester, PA. This 8-pound 3.2-ounce flattie was caught using a 20-pound line and Berkley Gulp for bait. AKE Marine was the weigh station.
The largest bluefish was hooked at the Jackspot by 6-year old Tyler Bean of Callaway, MD and weighed at Bahia Marina. The 15-pound prize was reeled in using a 25-pound line and squid as bait.
Delaney Karcher of Redlands, CA, hooked her 4-pound, 8-ounce winning sea bass at the African Queen while fishing on the Morning Star using a 20-pound line and squid/clam combination as bait. The Ocean City Fishing Center weighed this catch.
Also fishing on the Morning Star at the Offshore Wreck was Abbey V. Smith of Ford City, PA, when she caught a 10-pound tautog using a 30-pound line. AllTackle weighed this winner.
The winning Rockfish was snagged in the Ocean City Inlet by Laverne Good of New Holland, PA, using a 12-pound line and sand fleas for bait. This 15-pound striper was weighed at the Ocean City Fishing Center.

AMATEUR ANGLER CONTEST FINISHES WEEK FIVE

OCEAN CITY, MARYLAND.....The Amateur Angler Fishing Contest held the fifth week of its summer competition awarding participants with weekly certificates for the largest flounder, bluefish, sea bass, rockfish, trout and tautog. This amateur contest is open to all visitors and local anglers. There were winners in two categories this week.
The largest flounder was pulled from the bay at buoy 6A-7 by Randy Cramer of Boiling Springs, PA and weighed at Bahia Marina. The 7-pound, 8-ounce flattie was reeled in using a 14-pound line and minnows as bait.
Regina Coots of Gore, VA, hooked and weighed her 36-pound winning rockfish at the Oceanic Fishing Pier using a 20-pound line and eel as bait.
Congratulations to Oyster Bay Bait & Tackle who is this week’s “Super Scales” winner. This addition to the Amateur Angler Contest is given to the weigh station that hands in the most catch reports weekly.

AMATEUR ANGLER CONTEST FINISHES WEEK FOUR

OCEAN CITY, MARYLAND..... Fishing the bays and ocean surrounding Ocean City in week four, the Amateur Angler Fishing Contest has winners in four categories. The contest is open to all visitors and local anglers. Weekly certificates are given out for the largest bluefish, flounder, sea bass, rockfish, trout and tautog.
Arriving at the O.C. Fishing Center with a 13-pound, 4-ounce tautog was Edwin K Maker Sr of Baltimore, MD. This fish was caught on a 30-pound line while fishing offshore on the Morning Star.
The largest rockfish was pulled from the water at Assateague by Sam Kilgore of Berlin, MD and weighed at Harbor Tackle. The 31-pound, 2-ounce striper was reeled in using a 17-pound line and bunker as bait.
Weighed in at Bahia Marina was a 5-pound sea bass. Rachael Weinstein of Princeton Junction, NJ reeled in this winner while fishing offshore on the Judith M using a 12-pound line and clams as bait.
Pulling in the largest flounder this week was Joseph Maffei of Essington, PA. This 6-pound prize was snagged in the Sinepuxent Bay using a 25-pound line and minnows as bait. Buck’s Place was the weigh station.

OCEAN CITY, MARYLAND..... Week three of the Amateur Angler Fishing Contest finished up around the Ocean City waters. The contest is open to all visitors and local anglers. Weekly certificates are given out for the largest bluefish, flounder, sea bass, rockfish, trout and tautog. There were winners in five categories.
Mike Hastings of Berlin, MD is this week’s winner in the rockfish category. The 43-pound striper was pulled from the Assateague Surf using a 20-pound line and bunker head as bait. Buck’s Place weighed this prize.
The Ocean City Fishing Center weighed in two of this week’s winners. First to arrive was Diane L Decicco of North Chatham, NY with a 15-pound tautog. This prize was caught 30 miles offshore using a 40-pound line and clam as bait.
Gary Hays of Waldorf, MD also arrived at the Ocean City Fishing Center to weigh the winner in the sea bass category. The 4-pound, 8-ounce fish was snagged at the Wreck with a 40-pound line and clam as bait
Pulling in the largest flounder this week at the Ocean City Airport was Earl Wayne Jenkins Jr. of Thurmont, MD. This 6-pound, 11-ounce flattie was caught using an 8-pound line and minnow as bait. AKE Marine was the weigh station.
Catching the largest bluefish this week was Hugh Cropper IV of Ocean City. This 13-pound, 8-ounce winner was reeled in at the Fingers using a 50-pound line and bunker as bait. Harbor Tackle weighed this winner.

Catching the heaviest rockfish at 40-pounds, 7-ounces was Scott White of Ocean City. This striper was pulled from the Assateague Surf using a 20-pound line and bunker as bait.
Harbor Tackle weighed this prize.
Ray Griffin, also of Ocean City, hooked this week’s winning flounder while fishing at the Thorofare. A 15-pound line and squid/minnow combination was used to catch the 6-pound, 4-ounce flattie. Bahia Marina was the weigh station.

AMATEUR ANGLER CONTEST FINISHES WEEK ONE (Winners for Week 1; 5/21-5/28/07)
OCEAN CITY, MARYLAND..... The summer fishing season has once again started in
Ocean City. Fishermen are casting their lines in hope of winning the weekly Amateur Angler
Fishing Contest, which has begun its 27th year. This contest is open to all visitors and local anglers. Weekly certificates are awarded for the biggest flounder, trout, bluefish, sea bass, rockfish and tautog. This week saw winners in all six categories.
Starting the season with a 43-pound rockfish was Katie Dadamo of Alexandria, VA. This winner was caught in the Assateague Surf using a 16-pound line and bunker as bait. Harbor Tackle weighed this striper.
Also arriving at Harbor Tackle was Mau-En Lee of Gaithersburg, MD with a 4-pound, 1-ounce tautog. This fish was snagged at the Bulkhead between 2nd & 4th Street using a 65-pound braided line and sand fleas as bait.
Steven Flohr of Dover, PA hooked this week’s winning flounder at the Hole in the Wall using a 17-pound line and squid as bait. The 6-pound, 8-ounce flattie was weighed at Sunset Provisions.
The sea bass category was won by Christina Falkenburg of Cochranton, PA. The 5-pound prize was reeled in at the Wreckage Reef using squid as bait. The Ocean City Fishing Center weighed this catch.
Using a 15-pound line and grass shrimp as bait, Ed Bush of Selbyville, DE pulled in a 5-pound, 8-ounce trout while fishing at the Fenwick Ditch. This winner was weighed at Oyster Bay Bait & Tackle.
Catching the heaviest bluefish was Tim Raines of Downingtown, PA. This 9-pound, 8- ounce winner was caught at the Jackspot using a 50-pound line and Bally-Hoo as bait. The Ocean Pines Marina weighed this prize.
