I am in agreement about arriving early, utilizing OC's transportation and being prepared with food, drinks & sun protection. But I have to say that besides being thrilled to be able to be invited to the VIP tent I have had great sights of the show around the 25th to 28th street's area of the beach.
Although it's still crowded, there's a little more breathing room. In fact, we have had a group as large as 15 with several kiddos playing in the sand and in the ocean in between the air show acts.
Best advice: be early, be prepared (food, ear plugs, sunblock, plenty of water, beach chairs, etc.) for a DAY at the beach, would not recommend bringing children under 3, make sure parking is paid for the entire day and have a camera with fresh batteries!
