Why are smoking room so hard to find? My family and I have been coming to Ocean City for years and it seems over the last 3 years, smoking rooms are getting harder to find.

John,

This is a nationwide trend.  I read in a travel magazine that less than 1% of all new rooms being built were designated smoking rooms.  This is not only a personal preference, but it will decrease the insurance the hotel has to pay as well.  I believe you will find this trend continuing in the future.  That being said, most hotels offer a place to smoke, often on your balcony.

You are correct, it is becoming harder and harder to find a smoking room.  I am a smoker, but never like the smell of the rooms that do allow smoking and I will not smoke inside around my son.   I always ask if I can smoke on the balcony.  Some allow it, some don't.  Whatever hotel you decide on, call them directly and ask if you can smoke on the balcony.

Unfortunately, a lot of hotels that have non smoking rooms or are completely non smoking are now charging a $50.00 or more fee or fine if there is evidence that a person has been smoking in the non smoking areas.  Times are changing for sure.
