Do the rates differ on the weeks of August 18 thru the 25 and August 25th thru 31st. Is the latter week cheaper? Or do vacational rentals run the same?

Some hotels and condo owners will offer lower pricing for the later week simply because most schools will be back in for the new year or families will be preparing for the next school year which means family vacations are fewer.  Will it be a huge difference, no, but if your travel plans are open, I would consider postponing to the later week.

Also, my personal suggestion if you are booking a hotel is to utilize www.ocisfree.com as not only will you get good rates and specials, but you may be eligible for free certificates for restaurants, attractions, etc.  These definitely aid in stretching those vacation budgets.

Thank you,
Anna G.

From my own personal experience, yes.  We have gone the last week of August up to Labor Day for years. Why? Because rates are lower and the crowds are smaller. It's the best time of year for us.

We have found this to be hit and miss. Many condos and hotels do not lower their rates until after Labor Day. The beach is much less crowded during the last week in August though.

I have found some rentals do lower rates for the third and fourth week of August, but will go back up for Labor Day week. The last two weeks of August are my favorite time in OC.  Less crowds, warm water, and great deals in the shops and restaurants.
