Basic hotels ranged in the $150-$250/night and hotels with greater amenities (indoor pool, fitness, restaurant, etc.) were $260-$360/night. These rates were based on peak summer weekend rates. If you choose mid-week the rates would be less.
In addition by reserving through www.ocisfree.com, you may be eligible for FREE certificates for restaurants, activities, and attractions. So as an example of the dates above, you would be eligible for 6 FREE certificates!
Hope this provides some basic information and as a reminder, the rates above are based on the 8/17 to 8/20 date range.
Thank you,
Anna G.
Dunes Manor is a couple of blocks north of the boardwalk at 28th street, all rooms are ocean front with balconies. They definitely have adjoining rooms. This is one of my favorite properties in OC, and the place I always recommend. My family stays there often. Their rooms have small kitchen areas, but are more like traditional hotel rooms than suites. They have adjoining rooms. They have an indoor/outdoor pool that is open year round. http://www.dunesmanor.com/
Courtyard by Marriott at 15th Street is ocean front on the boardwalk. New property built about 3 years ago with lots of amenities including ocean front and ocean view rooms with small balconies and an indoor pool. I am not sure if they have adjoining rooms or not. http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/sbyoc-courtyard-ocean-city-oceanfront/.
Holiday Inn Suites at 17th Street is right on the boardwalk. Many rooms are ocean front with balconies. The hotel has lots of amenities including indoor and outdoor pools. I am fairly certain they have adjoining rooms, but they do not have 2 bedroom units. http://www.ocsuites.com/
Dunes Motel is at 27th Street, right at the north end of the boardwalk right at the tram station. It is an ocean front hotel with many ocean front rooms with balconies. It is a great, affordable ocean front motel. It also has rooms with balconies that face the bay. They have an outdoor pool. I am not sure if they have adjoining rooms or not. http://www.ocdunes.com/

The Castle in the Sand at 37th street is a great midtown location. The hotel is ocean front, but they have several building and all types of rooms. They have lots of amenities including an outdoor pool. http://www.castleinthesand.com/home.php
Atlantic Budget Oceanfront at 45th street was just renovated and is a nice ocean front property. They have an outdoor pool. The insiders toured this hotel last month, and it is very nice. They reopen in early May. http://www.ocatlantic.com/
The Maridel Motel is at 41st street and is the absolute closest to the Convention Center. It is right next door. It is a bay block motel with an outdoor pool, but I don't know too much about it, so I can't tell you how nice it is or isn't. http://www.maridelmotel.com/

That is cruise weekend, so the town will be busy that weekend. If none of the places I've listed have rooms, hotels that have a 3 night minimums, will relax that restriction if you call closer to the date of your tri and they have unsold rooms.

Sahara, 19th Street on the boardwalk with ocean block buildings too. Outdoor pool. A basic motel that will be clean, but will not have lots of amenities. Mid July weekdays from $129. http://www.saharamotel.com/
The Flamingo is just north of the boardwalk at 31st Street. It is ocean block with 3 buildings and an indoor pool so it will be more affordable than the ocean front places. They have indoor and outdoor pools. Mid July weekdays from $139. http://www.theflamingomotel.com/
Tides, 71st Street, outdoor pool, ocean block. A basic motel that will be clean, but will not have lots of amenities. Mid July weekdays from $109. http://www.tidesmotel.com/
Beachmark, 73rd Street, outdoor pool, ocean block. A basic motel that will be clean, but will not have lots of amenities. Mid July weekdays from $129. http://www.beachmarkmotel.com/
If you don't mind staying across the Bay, The Francis Scott Key is a nice place that may be more affordable due to its location. It is about 1/2 mile outside of OC, and they run a shuttle bus to the beach throughout the day. They have lots of great amenities, including a water park there. Mid July rates from $151. http://fskfamily.com/
Note that all hotels, motels, and condos in OC have 10.5% in state and local tax added to their quoted rates. Some motels and hotels also add a fee for more having more than 1 or 2 people in the room.

My favorite buildings: The Golden Sands, Quay, Capri, Pyramid, Century I, and the English Towers. Good luck and have a great trip!
Your best bet is to work with a realtor to pick out a unit that meets you needs and budget. I recommend starting with their websites to narrow your choices, and then working with an agent to finalize your selection. Two realtors I've used recently and been very happy with are:
Coldwell Banker: 800.633.1000 http://www.cbvacations.com/
Shoreline Properties: 800.492.5832 http://www.shorepro.com/
Have a great time in OC next fall!
There are lots of great places on the boardwalk. Below I've listed a few that have lots of ammenities. All of these are ocean front with balconies (but some may also have some rooms that are not ocean front)

Clarion Fontainebleau - Ocean front, 101st Street. This is a great large property with lots of amenities. Most of the rooms are ocean and bay view. This is the nicest property on the list with the most ammenties (www.clarionoc.com/)
Coastal Palms Inn and Suites - Ocean block 120th Street. It was recently taken over by the Carousel and completely redone. It is very nice. Staying here provides access to many of the Carousel's amenities (just 2 blocks away). Also has an outdoor pool and free loaner beach chairs (www.coastalpalmshotel.com)
Barefoot Mailman - Ocean block on 35th Street. (www.barefootmailman.com/)
Windjammer Apartments - Ocean front, 46th Street. A nice older property with studio, 1BR, 2BR, and 3BR apartments. I stayed there for many years. (www.ocwindjammer.com)
Safari Hotel at 13th Street is ocean front on the boardwalk. I belivee that The Safari is the only place on the boardwalk that takes pets. (www.safarimotel.net)
I assume you are aware that dogs are not allowed on the OC beach or boardwalk or beach anytime from 1 May to 30 September.
There is a Dog Park on 94th Street that you can use for a small fee assuming your dog has all required shots.
