I'm trying to help my son find a place to rent for senior week 2011

Debbie,

The Ocean City website for senior week is http://www.playitsafeoceancity.com.   This is a great resource to find information on accommodations, free and sponsored activities, and much more.

To find a hotel/motel that will rent to Junebugs (aka seniors), check out www.ococean.com or http://www.ocean-city.com/junehotels/.  Both sites will provide information, pricing, and contact information.

Congratulations to your son.

Hi--myself, husband and 2 young children are planning an August vacation and I need recommendations for a family style hotel. Can you reccomend one close to the boardwalk and beach that doesn't have young college partying types?

Here are a few suggestions. All of these are nice mid range and up places where I would stay myself with my family.

Spinnaker - 18th Street, ocean block, outdoor pool

Holiday Inn Hotel and Suites - 17th Street, ocean front on the boardwalk, indoor and outdoor pools

Dunes Motel or Dunes Manor Hotel -  28th Street, both places are ocean front one block north of the boardwalk, indoor/outdoor pool at Dunes Manor

Castle in the Sand - 37th Street, ocean front, large outdoor pool, easy drive or bus ride to boardwalk.

If you want to go to the high end in terms of amenities, rooms, and price, the Hilton Suites ocean front on 32nd Street is also a great option.

If you are staying a week with a family, I'd recommend considering a condo rental. I rent a condo every year and find I get more space for less money. I give up maid and linen service and some amenities, but it is worth it for the extra space. There are not lots of condos on the boardwalk, but there are a few. I love the area midtown (about 33rd to 85th Street) where there are lots of low rise buildings and where it is easy to get to everything in OC.  If you want to explore the condo route, contact one of OC's realtor. Many are referenced on other threads on this site.

You will need a condo or house to fit this many people.

Your best bet is to call one or more of the real estate agencies that focus on rentals and let them know what you are looking for. They will want to know how many people you have, how many bedrooms and bathrooms you need, what amenities you want, if there is a particular area you want, and what your budget range is. They can quickly let you know what options they have available that week.

A few great agencies that offer lots of options are:

Coldwell Banker: http://www.cbvacations.com/

Shoreline: http://www.shorepro.com/

Holiday: http://www.holidayoc.com/ocean_city_maryland_vacation_rentals.php

Century 21: http://www.century21newhorizon.com/index-rentals.htm

Keep in mind that this is during the senior week period so you will likely have lots of groups of teens and young adults in town looking for accommodations. If you are one such group you also will have more limited choices as some owners will not rent to groups of people below 21.  If you are a senior week group try this site as they specifically address rentals by beach week groups: http://www.century21newhorizon.com/ocean-city-senior-week.htm

Do you have any recommendations for a group rental that fits 12.

My recommendation would be to find a condo or maybe even two condos may be more cost effective.  If you go to www.cbvacations.com or www.lfvacations.com, you can type in the number of people in your group along with other desired amenities and the search engine will provide you with individual units in which you can see pictures of.  My family's favorite condos are the Golden Sands, Quay, Century.  Goodluck!

Hi - I'm trying to buy a condo that has parking, but unassigned parking. There are signs that say "towing at owner's expense", and the condo is right near the beach, so I'm concerned that people might just try their luck and park - leaving no place for me. Do you know of a lot of problems with people parking in lots that are for the condo owner's? Is this a big problem in OC?

KD,
Most condos issue parking stickers or passes so it is easy to tell who should be parking there.  I do not believe this is an issue.  Most condos are well policed, enforce towing, and most people respect the signs.  Congratulations on your purchase if you choose to move forward!

Is there anything to do in Ocean City in the end of February or are most places closed for the winter?

Tiffany,
I often go down with my family (including 4 kids ages 9 to 16) in February for a long weekend. here are a few suggestions.

1. Enjoy one of the many OC restaurants that are still open in February. I always make a trip to Harborside in west OC for a casual meal. Captains Table (in the Courtyard Marriott), Fager Island, BJs, and Harpoon Hanna's are also great choices. Bayside Skillet, Crabcake Factory, Dough Roller, Satellite (46th, only open on weekends)), Decatur Diner (on Route 611 in west OC)  all have great breakfasts.

2. Visit the brand new Assateague visitor's center

3. Go indoor mini golfing (68th or 136th), see a movie, visit an arcade, or go bowling

4. Go to Berlin and checkout their shops

5. If it is sunny, take a walk on the boardwalk, some of the shops will be open, especially on sunny weekend days.

Be sure to bring a warm coat, hat and gloves. Even on warmer days it tends to be very windy in OC at this time of year.

Have a great trip!

How do we get information or contacts for the cottage rentals along the Boardwalk?

Wayne,
Try any of the local real estate firms.  A complete list of real estate companies can be found here:  http://www.octhebeach.com/realestate/companies.html.  I personally like Prudential Curruthers, but many firms share the same listings.  Keep in mind that the cottages are older units and may not contain the luxury of newer larger-scale properties, but they are right on the Boardwalk.

I'm looking for a cheap apartment to rent from June 11th to the 18th for 6 people for senior week. My friends and I have searched everywhere but can't seem to find something that fits us.

If you want to upgrade from the Commander I'd recommend the Hilton Suites (32nd Street, ocean front, just north of the Boardwalk which ends on 27th Street) or Courtyard Marriot (15th Street, on the Boardwalk). They are both new buildings and are two of the best in this area.

If you want something comparable to the Commander, you could consider Dunes Manor (28th Street, ocean front) or the The Grand (15th Street on the boards).
