There are not a lot of different options. The beach bus costs $3 to ride all day. A day starts at 6am. You can pay $3 to the driver as you go each day (you need exact change) or buy a punch card at the bus stations at the north or south end of town (no discount, just no need to carry exactly $3).

Senior Citizens can get annual bus passes free of for a small fee. See here for more info.

Are there rules against ball-playing on the beach? That includes soccer, football/baseball catch, etc. Thanks!

Ball playing is generally prohibited on the beach, but it is at the discretion of the lifeguards. Generally, the guards don't ever let people play ball or catch in the water or in the areas where most people sit closer to the water. However, the guards do typically allow people to play catch, soccer, and similar closer to the dunes or boardwalk near the western edge of the beach.

I'm hoping to rent a pontoon boat for a few hours in Ocean City. Where can I go about finding the best businesses, prices, hours, etc.? Thanks!

You can't go wrong renting from Bahia Marina. They have years of experience and a fantastic reputation in OC. Plus when you return you can spend the evening at Fish Tales! A great bay front bar and restaurant at the marina. Most pontoon boat rentals run about $100 per hour. Check the Sunny Day Guide for coupons.

Boat rentals include a boating safety lesson so you will need to arrive early. Please take this lesson seriously. Boating in OC can be challenging especially on the weekends in crowded waters. The AVERAGE depth of the bay is only 3 feet. It is easy to run aground. Mind the speed limits, the maximum capacity of your vessel and be a sober skipper. My family and I have been boating in OC for over 45 years and it is great fun when you obey the laws! Nothing can ruin a day on the water faster than a ticket from the Marine Police or an injury. That said, enjoy your day on the water!

I'm planning a trip to Ocean City during Independence Day. Would you say the area is particularly crowded during that time? Are there parts of town that are more crowded than others?

This year July 4th is a Tuesday so the crowds might a a bit smaller, but not much! July is peak season in OC so yes there will be crowds. If you are looking for more nightlife and the beach hustle and bustle downtown-below 28th St is for you! Midtown to the Rt. 90 bridge is a bit slower paced and uptown-North OC is much quieter. We usually vacation on 32nd St and love the area-close to the action but on the quiet side. Have fun in OC!

They have been banned in Rehoboth, but are still allowed in Ocean City.  You cannot have it enclosed, and it must be securely anchored at least 15 feet behind the lifeguard chairs so they don't block the lifeguard's view. To anchor them, you need to bury the legs deep into the sand or secure them with long, strong steel stakes. The little stakes or camping stakes won't be strong enough.  You can also fill sandbags and secure them that way. I have three of them, but find umbrellas are much more convenient.

How spread out are umbrella rentals along the beach? We're staying on 110th Street. Is there one nearby?

I'm guessing your staying at the Capri or the Golden Sands condos. To answer your question there will be large blue boxes right when you walk onto the beach. There should be a attendant on duty to assist you in setting up any chairs or umbrellas you wish to rent.
