We're heading to OC in July and staying at the Carousel. We're going to have four kids with us and don't want to lug beach umbrellas every time we go onto the beach. I know you can rent umbrellas at the stand on the beach by the day/week. If we rent for a week, do we have to lug the umbrellas back/forth to the hotel or will the "stand renters" set up and put away after each day? How early do you have to arrive to get a "good" spot on the beach. Also, anyone know how the pools are at the Carousel? Is it packed or still room to enjoy? Thanks

I camp out right in front of the Carousel.  The pool can be crowded but it is not that bad.  If using the pool, get there early to reserve a lounge chair,  The pool does lose it's sunshine in the afternoon due to the building blocking the sun.

Here is a pic of the rental place right by the Carousel

Josie,

Look like your questions were more than answered for you.... I'd add that I know two of the managers at the Carousel personally, and they are ardent in their pursuit of bending over backwards for their guests..... I think you'll have a great time.

Hi Josie,
No, you don't have to lug your rentals back and forth.  They will set up for you, and if you rent for the whole week, you'll have to show your receipt each day when you want your umbrella and chairs.
How early you have to be there for a "good spot" kind of depends on the weather. If it's going to be a hot, sunny day then you'll want to get there early......8 or 9 a.m. for a good spot. Also keep an eye on the tide charts. If it's going to be an early high tide, have your spot a little further back,  but if high tide is later in the day, then  I like to try and get as close to the water as I can.
The pools at the Carousel are great.  The only time they're really ever packed is on rainy days when the kids have nothing else to do.
You can check out what others have to say on the Carousel's Facebook page too.
Have a great time in OC.

Josie,
One other thought on your spot on the beach.  The timing of the tides will impact how long the beach is.  As the tide goes out, you can always move up closer to the water.
The pools at the Carousel are great and well maintained.

Josie,

Carousel is a fabulous hotel with many options for all ages, indoor pool, outdoor pool, arcade, ice skating rink, and so much more to list.  We have stayed there many times and truly enjoy the family atmosphere, yet provide alternatives for adults, like the pool par or indoor bar.

There is tons of beach space and no real bad spot.  You'll enjoy it thoroughly and won't feel overcrowded.

As for the umbrellas, if you purchase for the week, the staff will set up and tear down for you; however keep your receipt and show each day.

Have a great time!

I think the pools at the Carousel are time well spent and enjoyable.  You can rents chairs and umbrellas by the day or the week.  You do not have to remove them to your room each day.  You just show up at the beach stand each morning and the rental employee will set them up for you.

I have stayed at the Carousel several times in different seasons and have never thought the pools were packed.   Also, if you stay in the area of your hotel for the beach, I think you will be fine whatever time  you get to the beach.  I don't rent beach umbrellas, so I can't help you there.
