Exit New York City by the best route from your location to get to the New Jersey Turnpike South.
Take the New Jersey Turnpike South to the end and cross the Delaware Memorial Bridge.
Go about 4 Miles in Delaware and get off onto US 13 South / US 40 West towards Dover.
Continue on US 13 South about 10 miles until you reach Delaware Route 1 South.
Stay on Route 1 about 50 miles until you reach Route 113. Take 113 South towards Milford or Georgetown. Continue on Route 113 South about 43 miles into Maryland.
About 8 miles after entering Maryland get onto Route 90 East.
Route 90 will take you about 4 miles into Ocean City at 62nd Street.
The NJ Turnpike, Delaware Memorial Bridge, and Delaware Route 1 are all toll roads.
The route above should take about 4.5 hours.
For a more interesting ride you can take the Cape May, NJ - Lewis, DE Ferry. This trip may be more scenic, but likely will take longer. If you take the ferry be sure to make a reservation in advance.
If you are looking for another way other than driving you can take Greyhound from the Port Authority in NYC to OC. You may need to change buses along the way. The bus station is in West OC, but I believe there are buses that run from that lot into Ocean City.
Mapquest offers the best mapping alternatives (ie tolls, distance, scenic, etc.).Â
