Amanda,

The latest projected path for Earl puts it's outer bands off the coast of Ocean City..... We won't know anything definite until later this week... it is still uncertain as to how close it will hug the coast.....

Bill gave  you a great answer, but I would also like to point out, that it could change many many times before the weekend.  I was in Ocean City when a hurricane came up the coast, but stayed out to see.  It was awesome to see the waves.

Town officials are monitoring all tropical activity and are asking citizens and visitors to monitor as well. As we receive updates from the National Weather Service, we will post on our website.
www.weather.com is a great site to go to in order to get updates.
I hope Earl keeps away from OC and you see nothing but sunny days this weekend!

I am goin g to suggest that you keep your eyes and ears on the weather all week.  You may wish to adjust your sleeping arrangements depending on any rain or wind that may be involved with this system.  Please remain out of the water when the sea is rough due to such a storm.  The Ocean City Beach Patrol is subject to even close the beach for swimming at these times.  For your own safety, Keep your feet in the sand, till th elifeguard is in the stand.    Also please keep checking this site for any storm updates or advisories that the town may issue.  http://oceancitymd.gov/Emergency_Management/advisory.html

Amanda,

Official Town of OC response:
Town officials are monitoring all tropical activity. We are asking citizens and visitors to monitor as well. As we receive updates from the National Weather Service, we will post on our website (http://oceancitymd.gov/Emergency_Management/advisory.html).

As for rip currents, with severe weather (such as tropical storms and hurricanes), you can get an increase in dagerous rip currents along the coast.  Extra caution is recommended for all swimmers during this time of year.   Everyone is advised to check with lifeguards about the current rip current status before entering the water.

As recommended, never enter the ocean when lifeguards are not on duty (10a - 5:30p daily).  Please swim near the lifeguard stations.

If you should experience rainy days, check out the Old Pro Golf indoor course, Gold Coast Mall, Fox movies, and all the wonderful restaurants in Ocean City, MD!

Have a great vacation!
