Ask a Question
Hi, my family and I will be staying at the Bahia Vista May 19th thru the 22nd. Since our condo is right along the bay and we have access to a dock directly behind the unit we rented, my question is, will we be able to do any fishing in the bay, and if so, do we need special licenses and what are the rules? Thank you for your help!

Another option even though you have your own boat is to rent a charter if you wanted to bypass getting a license to fish.  That way you can trly just sit back and relax and enjoy your vacation.  Here is a site to help you with that should you decide this is a route you would like to go:  http://ocfishing.com/

As mentioned, Oyster Bay Tackle across from the Fountainhead and Carousel up by 116th St has some well versed people working there who have not only bait and tackle, but also great advice where to find the best fishing at the best time of the day.  They also have nice tee shirts too.  I have caught some nice sized flounder at 22nd St and below.

Walmart on route 50 also has some tackle and rods at great prices, but the advice is not as good as Oyster Bay Tackle.

There have been many changes to the Maryland fishing regs. Oyster Bay Tackle shop has a great website with lots of valuable information.  http://oysterbaytackle.com/index.php/home.html

When in town, I suggest visiting Bahia Marina located bayside between 21st and 22nd Sts.  The people there are very helpful.  They have a full line of fishing supplies, bait and tackle.  If you want to fish, clam or crab out in the bay they have boat rentals as well. Small skiffs, pontoon boats and power boats.

You can also crab along the pier.  From my experience, fishing is very hit or miss along most condos.  The water quality and habitat does not support fishing.  I would check with Oyster Bay and try to find a "hot spot."  You may have more luck and more fun, but with more effort.  Best of luck to you!

This is a great link and it's written by the owner of Oyster Bay Tackle, which is our favorite location and supplies for fishing information during our vacations (http://www.atbeach.com/fishrpt.html).

This should answer all your questions and if not Sue's information to contact her is included with the posting.

Thank you,
Anna G.
