Hi, We're scheduled to arrive on Saturday. How will hurricane Irene affect our plans. Is there or has there ever been a manatory evacuation? Where can we find information about coming & staying if Irene does come up the coast? Thanks

As of right now OC has been evacuated except for emergency personel, the sewage has been shut down, and most businesses boarded up and not planning to reopen until Monday.  The Bay Bridge and other bridges have been shut down as well until the storm passes.  Stay tuned to the local news stations such as WBAL 11 or WJZ 13 or check www.ococean.com for updates as Irene moves through.

Ocean city, md has been evacauted. Your hotel should've contacted you by now to let you know about cancellations.

Call ahead or check the town's website for updates.  As of right now in this phase of the evacuation plans you will not be allowed in.  Even I am leaving.

You can also follow hurricane news through Ocean City Today Newspaper's Facebook page. Students were asked to evacuate this morning. I would call the hotel you are supposed to stay at and ask what their procedure is in this case.

I have been in Ocean City for at least 5 hurricanes and the only foced hurricane evacuation I remember was the one in 1986 which tore up the boardwalk and cause Coastal Highway to be a sandy beach.  I still have pieces of the boardwalk from that storm (and great pics to)

I remember one year when they canceleld Sunfest due to the hurricane but the evacuation was strongle suggested but not manditory.

It's not always good to be in Ocean City when the these storms do come.  I remember another year working at the Harbor Watch and seeing the whole inlet parking lot under water.  (Salt water is not, I repeat is not good for your car)

That being said, it's too early to tell if there will be evacuations.

There's supposed to be some weather activity coming from Canada that may push the hurricane out to see but again, it's too early to tell.

All the radio and TV stations in the Ocean City area will keep you updated as well as the hotels.

Stay tuned.....................
