Our family loves waves for bodysurfing as well as surfing. We are planning our trip for August. Never been there and would like to know if waves are present. If surfing is an option are there any shops that provide rental boards? Thanks

I highly recommend a 3/2mm wetsuit for the morning and afternoon surfing runs.  If you surf on the designated surf beach, the sun will keep you warm while waiting for the perfect wave.  You can body surf at all beaches provided the conditions allow it.  Check with the life guard before you surf.   I use this website for my surf reports:  http://www.swellinfo.com/surf-forecast/ocean-city-maryland.html

I love bodysurfing too and have been doing it in OC since I was a kid. The waves in OC vary quite a bit season to season and day to day. Last summer while I was there it was the calmest I have ever seen it for a few days, and then there were several days with great waves. Most days when I am in OC there are fine waves for bodysurfing most of the day except for the hours around high tide. The same is true for the waves relative to surfing. However, surfing is only allowed on designated surfing areas (see http://oceancitymd.gov/Recreation_and_Parks/Beach_Patrol/) and before and after the lifeguards are on duty (before 10am, after 5:30pm). While use of surfboards and skimboards is restricted, boogie boards, rafts, and bodysurfing are allowed.

I agree with Colleen.  Endless Summer is a great option, and if you go out with them it is easy to find a good surf spot.

The waves will be around.  Catch a wave and you are sitting on top of the world!

Endless Summer Surf Shop offers a Surf Camp in the early evenings during the summer.  The instructors are friendly and understand many of the participants are beginners.  The rental fee is only $15 and the lessons are free. We attended camp and few time and both of my kids got up and rode a few waves and had a great time:

Oh yes. There is surfing and body surfing galore in OC.
These surf shops should be able to help you do what you're interested in:
Chauncey's Surf Shop on 28th St. and 54th St.  www.chaunceyssurfshop.com
Malibu's Surf Shop  8th St. on the boardwalk  www.malibus.com
K-Coast Surf Shop on 35th St.  www.kcoast.com

Another place to check out is Sommers Surf Lessons for Women.  Check out their website at www.sommerssurf.com

There are specific beaches for surfing, so you'll have to check with the shop as to which beach is open on which days and times.
Have a great time!
