I will be coming to oc next weekend with my family. We have 2 teenage daughters and they will be bringing their friend along. We will be staying around 59th street. Is this a good area and if it is too cold to swim what is there to do? Also my friend and her husband are joining us and they have a five year old daughter! Does the boardwalk run all the way down there? Is there carnivals close to us? I have been looking online but everything is so overwelming any suggestions would help.

The teens will love mini-golf and there is an indoor facility around 63rd street - just in case of rain. The movie theater's always have first run movies and it's great entertainment if weather doesn't cooperate. There is also a bowling alley close to where you are staying, not sure of exact location - but great teen entertainment. If sunny weather, many teens love sitting on the beach, walking the boardwalk, shopping (OC Outlets are great), or the water park. Several posters recommended Jolly Roger - but check out 65th Street Slide & Ride. Close to your location and you may be able to find coupons in the Sunny Day catalog. There is a laser tag place with mini golf and indoor climbing area. Something for all the kids. Also, an indoor arcade around 61st Street. For the five year old - try mini golf, arcade, rides (inlet has a great area right behind the boardwalk), arcade, beach, waves, kite flying, treasure hunting (my daughter loves searching for seashells early in the morning!). Hope your family has a great time.

The boardwalk stops at 28th St (I think). The teens will have fun on the boardwalk, which they could take the bus. Miniature golf is fun for all ages. And of course they will like shopping. The younger child will probably love playing in the sand and flying kites.

The boardwalk only goes to 28th St. When you arrive in OC, be sure to get the Sunny Day guide and free newspapers that are available everywhere (Stores, restaurants, hotel lobbies, etc) That will help you narrow down your choices + they have coupons. The water will be cool but the beach should be warm and a quick dip into the ocean will help cool you down. There is so much to do. Just walking the boardwalk from the inlet(south end) on up to at least 5th st will be fun. Check out the Kite Loft, Ocean Gallary, sand sculptures around 2nd, Edwards, trimpers rides, pier rides, various entertainers along the boardwalk like the escape artist next to Tony's pizza, magicians, and musicians. Yhe closest amusement park to you will be Jolly Rogers on 28th.

Jolly Rogers is another good place to go, there are a lot of kiddie rides plus a huge waterpark the teens might enjoy. It is on 30th street Bayside

Your on 59th street, kinda away from the busy end, but its okay since OC blocks are smaller in size. You could easily drive down or ride the bus to the boardwalk which runs from the inlet to 28th st. There is a boardwalk tram that runs end to end but can be costly, so I would recommend parking at the the inlet parking area and thats where the teenagers will want to be anyways. There will be rides for the 5 yr old as well as for the teens, shops, arcades and many places to eat at or near the inlet part of the boardwalk. You will get a hang of it in just a few hours walking the boards, have fun.
