My family and I are looking to relocate. We just love the ocean that much. However, housing right in Ocean City is very expensive. Where would you suggest we look? We have children ages 6-16.

What a great idea! I did it once while in college. The excitement does die down a bit in the winter but it is still great. Ocean City Elementry is rated #1 in the state. You may find cheaper housing in West Ocean City or Ocean Pines. You will also find cheaper rentals in the off season in Ocean City but it does jump up in the summer. Check out http://www.oceancitybeachsales.com/ for Ocean City Realtors and they can help you find housing. The Greater Ocean City Guide to Business and Community Information contains information you may need. This directory includes information about local health care, community profiles, school information, places of worship, parks and transportation, general demographics and contact numbers for the local and state agencies and officials. If you would like a copy, send an e-mail to info@oceancity.org providing them with your name, address, and any specific interests such as location, type of housing, price range and when you are thinking of moving to the area.

I can't answer your question, but I had to comment. I too would love to live in Ocean City full time, however, at this time in my life I can't. I envy you though.

As a teacher myself, I highly suggest that you call any of the schools that serve the area as they will be a great resource! Ocean City Elementary is rated number 1 in the state, and there is Stephen Decateur Middle and High for your older children. http://www.worcester.k12.md.us/schools/stephen_decatur_middle.htm http://www.worcester.k12.md.us/schools/stephen_decatur_high.htm

My friend lives in Salsibury MD about 25 minutes from ocean city... She likes it there she said it is close enough to Ocean city but don't have the congestion on the in season... She has 2 children and says the schools are good.

I've always thought the same and what I continually do is search realtor.com with customized parameters (price, square footage, etc.) and sometimes something decent and affordable will show up. Also, oceancity.org (their commerce site) will help with utilities and guidelines.
