Tanisha,

The tram stops after Labor Day, but does run during SunFest.  Here is the OCOcean link for all the details:  http://ococean.com/travel-tools/getting-around-oc.

I am planning a romantic anniversary weekend for my boyfriend and I this weekend - April 1-3, 2011. I've been to OC many times, especially during the peak season. But I'm having trouble coming up with something different for this coming weekend. It seems that most of the "romantic" stuff - like dinner cruises, etc. aren't open yet. We are staying at the Hilton Suites. Any romantic ideas for something different?

Amanda,

Try sunset dinner at Fager's Island one night - they have great dinner specials right now.  Another location would be Seacrets - great atmosphere as well and they had great dinner specials too!

Activities, off season may limit some of the normal stuff I would recommend, but - take a walk on the beach.  Rent a bike built for two and ride the boardwalk.

Enjoy all the amenities offered by the Hilton - indoor pool, restaurant, bar, etc.

Take a romantic stroll at Northside Park.  If you dine at Fager's Island, walk over to the pier and pavilion on the bay and get a front row seat to a beautiful sunset!

Hope this gives you a few ideas.

We are planning a visit for the memorial day weekend. We have been to OC before, but now we have a 2+ year old and we want to know if there are activities that are suited for toddlers? Also, do you know if there are any speciall events going on memorial day weekend?

Hi John,
There is plenty to keep your toddler amused in OC.  Of course the world famous boardwalk, but did you know that Trimper's indoor rides on the boardwalk is geared just for small children like yours? How about buying some sand toys and building an awesome sand castle with your little one.  Fly a kite. The water parks will be open as well.  Play mini golf together!  Take a ride to Salisbury and visit the zoo........it's free!
There is a spring Arts and Crafts show at the Convention Center on 40th St. Saturday and Sunday beginning at 10 a.m. Of course little ones are always happy just to walk on the beach and find seashells, so be sure to bring a little bucket along with you.
You could try crabbing or going for a boat ride with your child. Drive to Assateague to see the wild ponies. Ice skating at the Carousel Hotel.  They have skates for all ages from the tiniest to the biggest. Have lunch at BJ's on the Water at 75th St. They feed the ducks and geese daily at 1 p.m.  Take a walk around Northside Park and out the pier.

Is the beginning of the boardwalk (inlet area) just boards? At what street does the action begin?

The beginning of the boardwalk consist of the rides at Trimpers and Jolly Rodgers on the pier. Many spots for eats, shops, arcades and so forth.  There is pier parking and street parking and this is a heavily populated area during the evening hours in season.

We are staying at Park Place (near 2 or 3rd st boardwalk) this June and I was wondering are we close enough to walk to De lazy lizard on 1st street bayside or will we have to drive? Also, can we take the boardwalk tram and get off at 22nd st and cross over to go to Fishtales or will we have to drive their also? Thanks for your advise this will be our first trip to the OC.

The De Lazy Lizard is walking distance from Park Place but Fishtales is a good walk. The bus or car is better.

My family is staying at an OC condo for a week this summer that only provides two parking passes. But since my own family, my parents, and my sister's family are all coming from different places, we'll have three cars. Are there any long-term parking options available nearby?

The parking lot at the Convention Center on 40th St bayside offers free parking. I have left my car there for a week many times and it's been fine. Or depending on what street you are staying there may be street parking available but, that can be hard to find in the Summer.

I am trying to entice a shy 5 year old nephew into coming to OC to visit my family and I- when do the rides start up on the boardwalk and in the inlet area?

Best to wait until after Memorial Day to insure that all of the rides and activities will be open.  But if you can't wait that long, there is always Trimpers on the Boardwalk with rides for the younger set, Marty's Playland for arcade games, Laser Tag, indoor mini golf courses at 68th and 136th Sts, ice skating for all ages at the Carousel, the go karts are open in West Ocean City, or you can just buy some great sand toys and build the best sand castle EVER!

You can always take the Historic Walking Tour of Ocean City.  Pick up a brochure anywhere around town and learn some of OC's history while seeing some of the original architecture of Ocean City.  Visit the Life Saving Museum at the Inlet. It's only a very small fee and well worth the trip.  There is also an automotive museum in OC across the Rte. 50 bridge called Wheels of Yesterday.  Some wonderful and famous cars inside and a nifty little gift shop filled with 50's themed items. You can take a ride over to Salisbury and visit the Zoo. It's FREE! And at the end of the week on April 22, 23 there is an Easter Art and Craft Fair/Kids Fair at the Convention Center on 40th St..  Lots to do and see!

I was just going to suggest you check out the videos on the Life Saving Museum's webpage. They are excellent. And if you get a chance to visit the museum in person, please do. It's one of the best little things about OC.  And be sure to read Karl's posts and books on the other forum!  I've learned so much myself from his books. Or you could even stop into the Ocean City Library on Coastal Highway, or stop at City Hall.  And there is a free Historic Walking Tour available through downtown OC. Stop in at City Hall and pick up the brochure that leads the way.
