How can my band get a gig in Ocean City at one of the festival stages? I am in an '80s Cover Band and would LOVE to play in OC.

I assume you are talking about performing at Sunfest or Springfest. These events are sponsored by the Special Events Group of the Recreation and Parks Department. Call them at 410.250.0125 to find out how to be part of their entertainment schedule.

For events not sponsored by the town, like Cruisin' or Winefest, you need to contact the event organizer.

I suggest contacting a wedding planner in Ocean City like Rox Weddings (www.roxenterprises.com).

Another option would be to contact Renee Seiden at the Clarion Fontainbleau Resort on 101st St. She can help you plan your entire event from the smallest to the largest including a beach wedding. Call her at 410-524-3535, Ext. 7163.

The Princess Bayside also has a good reputation for their wedding planning and events on the bay side of Ocean City. http://www.princessbayside.com/ocean-city-md-weddings

There are no botanical gardens that I'm aware of, but there is a lovely park called Northside Park on 125th St. that has a lovely pier and walking bridge over a koi filled pond.  I'm sure any of the people who I mentioned would be able to help you with planning something there if it's allowed.

Everything is back to normal now. The only thing going on at the Boardwalk is the scheduled replacement of the old boardwalk with new boards. The boards are being replaced now around Caroline Street and progressing northward to about 13th St. They are getting very close to being done. Otherwise, aside from the end of the pier being lost, there was little damage done to the boardwalk and Ocean City in general. Everything is good to go.

Hi, i am from Ireland and spent a fantastic summer in 1986 working in the garden restaurant on 45th street. i wonder does anyone know of anyone who was around in those far off days? Also, cam anyone remember the name of the nightclub that was part of the complex there? I've google earthed it and it seems like its all gone, and a convention centre there instead :)

In that era the restaurant may have been either The Golden Plow or The Garden. The nightclub was likely Samatha's (although Samatha's may have been a few years later).

The 45th Street Village is still there, but the north side has been completely rebuilt since you were there. However, the restaurant area you refer to and the south side are still the same buildings as were there when The Village was built. On Google Maps you can find the Village between 45th and 46th Streets, a couple of blocks north of the Convention Center.

Here is a picture of the The Village with the restaurant area that I took a few years ago after a snow storm.

Do they sell the winterfest of lights merchandise/apparel on the web?

I do not believe that the Winterfest has an online store. However, if you call them at 800.626.2326 you may be able to arrange to purchase something and have it shipped to you.

Tickets to Winterfest are $5 for ages 12 and up. Ages 11 and under are free.
They take cash only. You can buy tickets at the event or in advance at the Convention Center  from 8am to 4:30pm.

Some places to stay are listed below. Many of these places will have very affordable off season rates.

Dunes Manor - This is my favorite place in OC and where my family most often stays

Holiday Inn Ocean Front - Another great place, midtown. I've stayed there often

Holiday Inn Express - I've not stayed there, but it looks nice and it is right by the lights

Clarion - Nice ocenafront place, I stayed there last year and liked it a lot

Princess Royal - Also a nice ocean front place near the north end of town

Clarion - I stayed here last year and enjoyed it. They have an ice skaintg rink and are close to the Winterfest

Enjoy the lights at Winterfest!

My daughter is a college student who has applied and been giving tentative employment with OC Police Dept for the summer 2013. Was wondering places for her to rent in OC since she will be a police officer and would like to stay close to where she is needed. Can be a share situation. Also where Mom knows she is safe.

Her best bet is first to speak to the OCPD and see if they have recommendations for were their seasonal staff usually live for the summer. Beyond that, the best way to find seasonal housing in OC is pretty much like anywhere else, check the classified adds, Craigslist, and work with realtors.

Two newspaper sources for housing are Ocean City Today and Maryland Coast Dispatch.

You can also contact realtors in town. Their websites tend to be geared towards vacation weekly rental properties more than seasonal rentals, but they can help you. I'd recommend calling Coldwell Banker at 800.633.1000. Here is a link to their seasonal rentals page.

Finally, here are some websites that deal in seasonal housing:

1- Has the boardwalk tram ever ran past sunfest? 2- What are the rock in the beach near the middle of the board walk? A old jetty? 3- What are your thoughts on the new boardwalk, gald they are redoing it but the tram ride is now very bumpy and vibrating. Do you think it is caused by the pattern the boards were layed down or just cause they are so new?

I do not believe the boardwalk tram has ever run past Sunfest. In fact it stops Labor Day weekend and then restarts just for Sunfest.

The rocky areas you see are old jettys or groins that were build over the years to preserve the sand on the beach. Some of these (mostly wooden ones) were built as early as the 1920s. There are several rock ones you can find remains of in town including one around 47th Street and another around 60th Street. In Ocean City most of these jettys accumulate sand on the north side and erode sand on their south side.

The pattern of the boards may be a contributing factor to the ride, but it will probably improve over time. The particular design of the tram area of the wood was selected to enable the boardwalk to better withstand the loads presented by the tram and other vehicles so long term maintenance is reduced.
