I was thinking of staying at the Holiday Inn on the boardwalk on Dec 27th to 29th and was wondering if there is anything open on the boardwalk?

Connie,

We were in OC a couple weeks ago and on the boardwalk on Saturday afternoon.  There were so many places open for shopping, dining, as well as attractions.  Granted their hours are limited and based on the weather, but it was great to be on the boardwalk the middle of December and be able to look around.

Have a great time!

Happy Holidays,

I know Fager's Island, Captain's Table, Clarion, Harborside, and The Shark are all open, and they all have gift cards or certificates. You can purchase some gift cards at a discount at http://www.oceancity.com/content/pages/ocean-city-store

Any suggestions on where to go New Years Eve in OC?

If you want upscale Fager's Island is always a great place. It's $35 a person. You can get more info on their website at http://nightlife.fagers.com/nye

If you want more casual, but a great party, Seacrets also is a great option. They have several different cover charge rates, but you can get more info at http://seacrets.com/nye/

Two more great options that are higher-end sophisticated dinner and dancing parties are the Clarion ($145 per person) (See: http://www.clarionoc.com/pdf/nye-page1.pdf) and Dunes Manor for $318 per couple includes NYE party and two nights oceanfront lodging (see http://www.dunesmanor.com/pdf/flyer-nye.pdf).

You can't go wrong with any of these places, but be sure to look at the details of each place as each one offers something different in their package.

Have a great New Year in OC!

What are the dates for the market ameica convention?

Matt,

I do not see any updated information for 2011 for this event.  If added, it will appear either on the Rowland E. Powell Convention Center site (http://ococean.com/meeting-planners/roland-e-powell-convention-center) or Market America for MidEast Region (http://www.marketamericaevents.com/).

Sorry I could not be of more assistance.  Perhaps another Insider will have updated information.

Thank you,

John,

Senior Week normally runs 3rd week of May until last week of June.

Here is a great website with lots of information for Senior Week, including special events, attractions, coupons, and accommodations: http://www.playitsafeoceancity.com/

In addition, check out the www.ococean.com website for information as it becomes available.

Thank you,

Heading to Ocean City again next year, and I was wondering if there were any plans for the mall that is between Roses and Superfresh on 94th street. I know it's been abandoned for years, and was hoping it might open again soon.

This property is the Ocean Plaza Mall. It has had multiple redevelopment plans over the past several years. Each one, including the latest, reached different levels of maturity and approval, but ultimately stalled. The latest one stalled when the real estate market declined dramatically a few years ago. I found this site (http://www.showcase.com/property/9701-Coastal-Highway/Ocean-City/Maryland/1165562) which indicates redevelopment is still planned. It has contact information if you need more details.

This parcel and a few others are among a small number of properties in OC with enough land for a major redevelopment effort (The Cropper Concrete factory site, Misty Harbor Motel site, and parcel between 67th adn 68th Streets are a few of the others). I believe Sunset Island on 67th was the last major parcel in OC that had not been previously developed. I suspect it will be a few years before another plan comes forward for this property or any other major development project. However, there has been some recent movement related to redeveloping the 45th Street Village property.

I have spent the last 5 or so Thanksgivings down in OC with my family, including 4 kids, now ages 9 to 16. We always have a great time.

Some fun things to do are: Got to Marty's Playland at the south end of the boardwalk, walk on the beach or boardwalk, go to the Winterfest of Lights at Northside park, play indoor mini golf, rent a bike or surrey and ride on the boardwalk, try out the new Visitor's Center at the entrance to Assateague Island.

You can find lots more great information at these two threads which speak about TG in OC:
