Hey OC Experts! This will be my family's 7th year in a row coming to Ocean City for a vacation and we are looking for some new things to do since we do the same old same old every year. I've been hearing of a few rumors of there being Ghost Tours and I was wondering if Ocean City indeed has any Ghost Tours? If there are, where can we find them? I heard through the grapevine that the Atlantic Hotel may have one and I was wondering if it was true. If not, are there any close by? I'm 16 and I have two younger siblings one 14 and one 7. Do you have any fun ideas of what my family can do together? My parents are almost down for anything. Our stay will be the first week of August. Thank you so much!!! -Alyssa <3

Alyssa,

Perhaps the other Insiders will be able to assist on the OC Ghost Tour, but the only one I'm familiar with is in Berlin.  It's just a short 10-15 minute drive from OC and from the information I've seen, looks like fun (reservations required).  Here's the website for this tour - http://ghosttoursoftheeasternshore.com/.

Fun things to do as a family, also in Berlin is Ayers Creek Adventures (http://www.ayerscreekadventures.com/) which offers guided water tours, or you can explore on your own in a kayak.

Fishing trip?  The Bahia Marina (next to FishTales) has great options and all the equipment is provided.

Dinner cruise?  Try the Angler, they offer a dinner cruise and possibly a new favorite of the family.

Foodie crawl?  Take off one afternoon and make stops at all the favorite restaurants in North OC, OC, and West OC and try their specialties.  For example, Hooter's - wings; JR's Ribs - ribs of course; Seacrets - jerk chicken; Hooper's - crabs; and so on.

Beach - it's OC and absolutely nothing better to do as a family than beach time!

Have a great vacation!

When does the "off" season begin at OC? We wanted to come down in early October but afraid everything will be closed. When does the summertime fun end?

Usually the summer season "officially" ends at Sunfest which is from September 23-25th.  With that being said, I have spent many October weekends in Ocean City and have swam in the still warm ocean and layed out and tanned with the still warm sunny weather.  You are not guaranteed warm weather but I have  experienced many warm Octber days on the beach and bay.  Most places of business are still open with the exception of many of the rides and a few souvenier shops. The hotels/motels drop their prices and many restaurants have great food specials.

Hey experts, I am staying at the Admiral Hotel in 10 days and I need to know where is the best and closest place to park and lockup my BMX bike closest to the hotel? I was thinking about locking it up next to the fence at the pool but I don't know if it is a good idea or not.

William,

Question, can you not put the bike in your room?  Might not work for you or the hotel may not be permitting, but a suggestion.

Otherwise, perhaps on the balcony outside your entrance?  If locking to the pool fence, perhaps in an area inside the pool area instead of on the outside.

Hope this helps...

Besides the beach for your main activity,

August 13th: Go over to 27th St and the beach to see a movie on the beach with a big screen which will be playing a cute little movie that I saw last week on the beach called "Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs"  Movie starts approximately at 8:30 with activities beforehand starting at 7:30. - FREE

August 15th: Up on 125th and bayside is Ocean City's amazing park called Northside Park which has great trails, ballfields, park, fishing, crabbing, and views.  On Sunday evenings they serve Sundaes for a fee with a free concert for everyone to enjoy.  Bring a blanket or chair and enjoy the many others who also have realized this is one of the best deals in Ocean City.  Get their around 5:30 to get a good spot.

Of course, you need to spend an evening or 2 on the boardwalk riding the rides, playing the games, eating the food, and shopping at the stores.

For some nice dining experiences that are VERY family friendly, a few great choices include:  De Lazy Lizard, Fishtales, and Dead Freddies.  Both Dead Freddies and De Lazy Lizard are new this year in Ocean City.  Fishtales is one of my favorites and is loacted at the Bahai Marina on 23rd.

I love ice cream in Ocean City and Dumsers is one of my favorites but I just found a new frozen custard/ice cream place called Bodacious Buckets on 130th St in the Montego Bay Shopping Center.  I loved it.  While at the shopping center, be sure to get some really cheap buckets, souvineers, etc at the largest dollar store in Ocean City, Dollar Tree which is on the other end of the shopping center.

People of all ages enjoy a game of miniature golf at some of the miniature golf courses in the mid-atlantic region.  My favorite is the Old Pro Golf Center on 136th complete with three different courses.  The Sunny Day Guide has $1 coupons.

If they like adventure there are two ocean speed boats that are very popular.  The OC Rocket which leaves out at Talbot St on the bay and The Sea Rocket which leaves out of Wicomico St and the bay.  $3 coupons are in the coupon booklets. The Sea Rockets offers a coupon where kids 12 and under ride for free with a paying adult.

A more milder ride but just as fun is the Assateague Adventure which takes you over to West OC and than over to Assateague Island bayside where you can get off the boat and explore the water with nets.  Again, $3 coupons are available in the coupon booklets.  They, like the OC Rocket leave from Talbot St and the bay.

Does the OC have an offical coupon book? Some resort areas have lots of little ones that are random, the Outer Banks has one "major one" which is the Sunny Day Guide. Does the OC have a "major" coupon book? Thank you!

Angela,

Great question.  Yes, Ocean City does offer a few sources for money saving coupons.

The first is the Ocean City Coupon Book, which have coupons for many local restaurants, activities, etc.  Here is the website for additional information (http://oceancitycouponbook.com/).

Also, www.sunnydayguide.com is valid for Ocean City as well.

Finally many of the local businesses will post specials and money saving coupons directly on their website.

Hope this helps your vacation planning and have a great time!

We live in Philadelphia and were thinking of vacationing in OC, problem... neither of us drive. We are looking for a way to travel from Philadelphia to OC and hotels that are close to that transportation. We assume that once we are there we can take public transporation around the town.. We were even thinking of getting married while we are in OC... We are both in our 50's.

My family and I will be visiting Sept 4-11th and would like to know if there is anywhere that you can safely leave crab pots in the water for a long period of time unsupervised?

I like crabbing in the northen bay areas and have left crap pots in the bay attached to bleach containers to be picked up later.  I am not sure of leaving them at the piers.  It is illegal for others to tamper with your pots but, if it is attached to a pier, I am sure people will pull them up out of curiosity.  Here is an interesting article about crabbinhg in Ocean City: http://www.atlanticbreezes.com/crabbing.htm

Also, give Sue a call over at Oyster Bay Tackle and she may be able to assit you better.  They also have chicken necks.  Their # is: 410-524-3433
