We will be celebrating my son's third birthday while in OC on vacation. We will be staying at 67th street. Can I buy a birthday cake at the grocery stores in OC (do they have a bakery)? His birthday is the day after we arrive, I realize that there will probably not be enough time to order a character cake, etc. But I would like to get a birthday cake with at least "Happy Birthday" written on it. We have a 7 hour drive to OC, so bringing one from home is not possible. If I can't get one at a grocery store, is there a bakery in OC? Thanks.

Kellie,

I hope some of my Insider colleagues have a better idea for you than I do... I'd check out the Food Lion on 118th Street or Rt 50 and Rt 611 in West OC, or... Wal Mart out on Rt 50.....

Heading to OC for a late family vacation Sept 29th thru Oct 3rd. How is weather typically that time of year and are attractions still open at that time? Is boardwalk still open? Interested in kid attractions such as Speedworld and Jolly Rogers. Some sites say yes, others no. Was told when booking they were. Trying to prevent a dilemma! Any info at all greatly appreciated

Alesha,

This is my favorite time in Ocean City.  The weather is great!  Not too hot, not too cold.  The ocean should still be warm enough to swim in.  Yes, the boardwalk is still open... very few businesses at this time have chosen to close fo the season or only open on weekends.  Now, the outdoor and indoor rides are most likely weekends only at Trimper's, and I don't know about the Jolly Roger, but I think they too are weekends only at this point.  I think that you'll find plenty to do.... for adults, and for kids!  Old Pro Golf is still open..... plenty to do on the beach and the boards..... you'll be fine.

Besides the Somerset area which is free, I was told Ocean City had a "pay as you go" wifi signal that covered all of Ocean City. 3 questions please. Is this true? What is the SSID called? And how much is it? Thanks in advance.

Hi. I'm planning on taking the Greyhound Bus home from OC. I'll be staying at the Boardwalk One Hotel. I was told there was one on 3rd Street, near the hotel. Did that move to 12848 Ocean Gateway? Is there a Greyhound trailsways, if it did move that far? Please let me know. Thanks!

Where can I find a map of the boardwalk businesses and restaurants? I was in OC, NJ last summer and there was a really cute, almost cartoon like map of their boardwalk. It really helped to plan the day.

You can drive on the beach in Assateague if you purchase a permit.

There is a $70-$150 annual permit fee (depending on the type of access desired). There is no weekly or other short term permits. Off road vehicles must be "street legal"(motorcycles and ATV's are not allowed). Permits may be obtained at the Toms Cove Visitor Center in Virginia and at the Sinepuxent Ranger Station in Maryland. Permits may also be purchased by mail. Call (410) 641-3030 for an application.

I would to know what water taxi may be available in Ocean City to bar hop -- I am concerned about DWI's and the heavy traffic.

The Buzz boat water taxi goes to 20 bars/resturants in OC 561-512-2727. Most of the time the bartenders know other water taxi services to call too.  I've also split a cab with people before which makes it a little cheaper. I like going to the Harborside in West OC and there are always state police there checking for DUI's. I keep Sunshine Taxi stored in my cell phone 410-524-7433

Have fun and be safe!

Hi!! I am coming from Northern Virginia and would like to know if there is any other way to get there besides going over the Bay Bridge? I am terrified of big bridges! Thanks!

Dawn,
You could drive straight up 95 into Delaware and take Route 1 into Ocean City.  This would add about 30 - 40 minutes to your drive, but totally avoid the Bay Bridge.  Toll are more, about $12, also.  I suggest trying google maps and choosing the "avoid" function for Rt. 50.  It should default to 95 North.  I used the Ocean City zip code of 21842, with no street selected.
