You can indeed rent beach wheel chairs from the city. I suggest that you first call your hotel, as depending on where you are staying, they often have them available for guests. OR :) Assawoman Wheelchair Rentals 508 Seaweed Lane Ocean City, MD (443) 880-2718

I understand Assateague Island (home of the wild ponies) is nearby and can be visited via tour boat. How/where is access made to the island? Any other info would be appreciated.

If you go over the Rt 50 bridge just look for signs for the park. It will be a left turn. Go a couple miles to the park. Once in the park stay to the right and you can ride through without paying Best time to see ponies is around or after dinner time when its cooler. Also there are a couple boat tours you can take from Ocean City One is called Assateague Adventure. They land on the beach and actually teach you about history and the marine life

We are a young couple 23 with a 1 year old daughter. We are staying at the Castle in the Sand hotel. This will be our first time in OC. What do you recommend for activites for people with young kids/babies? What is the general feeling about the hotel we chose?

It's a great hotel, when my twin boys were 1 1/2, we stayed at the same hotel. The rooms were clean and there were many activities right in the hotel to enjoy. Definietly rent an umbrella for the time you spend on the beach with your little one. You made a great choice. Have fun!

the distance question has already been answered but I need to add that the kids love the Pirate Adventure. Make sure you eat at Harpoon Hannas afterwards and bw sure not to fill up on the coconut muffins that htey serve as one of their dinner rolls.

Is public transportation available from Ocean City to the DC area?

I'd second renting a car if possible - it's a nice scenic drive to Ocean City, lots of places to stop and don't worry about parking while in OC.. Public Transportation in OC is top notch.
