There are two types of reduced fare transit passes for people age 60 and over.

Passes for residents and property owners are handled through City Hall. Call 410.289.8221 to get info on how to renew. You may be able to renew by phone. The pass is $7 and is good for 2 years and provides for free bus ridership for people age 60 and over..

There is also a non-resident pass for people age 60 and over that provides for half price fares. Call 410.723.1606 or 410.289.8221 for informaiton on the non-resident pass.

How can someone get to Ocean City via bus from New York City? We want to go for 2 or 3 days in October for our 10-Year Anniversary which is on October 27th? Can you help? We're a couple on a budget.

Yes, you can take the Greyhound bus form New York to OC. There are two options on 27 October (and most days). One leaves NYC at 8:30am and arrives in OC at 3:30pm. The second leaves at 11am and arrives at 8:30pm. Prices range from $44 to $78 depending when you purchase and the options you select.

Go to https://www.greyhound.com/farefinder/step1.aspx to check schedules and fares for your exact dates and to purchase tickets.

Have a great anniversary in OC!

How much wider is the beach down at the inlet than around 25th Street? I am thinking of staying at Belmont Towers, but I can see on MapQuest that the inlet is a lot wider. What do you think? Is it twice as wide, maybe?

Just north of the pier I'dd say the beach is 2 to 3 times as wide as it is most of the rest of OC. It tapers from the pier to about 10th Street and from there north the area east of the BW and dunes is generally about the same (with seasonal changes) for most of the length of OC. Since the 1991 beach replenishment and other annual refurbishments, the sand is plenty wide the whole length of  OC. Right at the inlet the beach is about the same width as it is at 25th because of the area taken up by the parking lot.

BTW, Belmont Towers is at Dorchester Street where the beach is almost as wide as it is at the pier.

The rides are closed.  The arcades are open, as is Ripleys Believe It or Not, the Mirror Maze, Thrashers, Dollies, Candy Kitchen and Fisher's.  The other stores are hit or miss on weekdays, but open weekends. Most restaurants are still open for dinner.

Was there a tornado on Thursday 9/15/11 around 79th Street? Any damages or injuries?

Yes, there was a tornado. It started as a waterspout in the bay and then crossed over OC at 77th Street and continued into the ocean.

The damage was minor and there were no notable injuries either. You can read about it here or see a video here.

Darlene, one of the other Insiders, was there and may have some additional pictures or information.

Hello! Parking question: We have a condo rented at 53rd and only 1 spot like every condo renters. I searched previous questions about extended parking and the locals say side streets are not a problem. If we leave our car on a side street days on end, there's no need to worry about getting ticketed or towed? Is there no extended stay parking lot as another option where we can pay and not worry? Thanks everyone!!

I have left cars on side streets for up to a week with no problem. You should be fine, but if you want to be extra sure move the car every couple of days. There will be plenty of parking this time of year.

I don't know is whether 3rd Street is far enough south that the side streets near the beach have paid vice free parking, but I suspect it is free.

Do you rent scooters for people who have a hard time walking? If so, how much?

PMI Rentals at 126th Street may have electric wheel chairs or scooters. They will deliver anywhere near OC. You can call them at 800.320.7469 or 410.250.1251.

You can rent also them from EC Glider Segways on Somerset street. The store is right off the boardwalk on the north side of Somerset Street. They rent Rascal electric scooters as well as Segway Scooters. You can reach them at 410.430.7181 or ecglider1@mac.com. I'd suggest calling them to check their hours.

Hello, I am wondering if they beach umbrella rentals (those guys with the blue sheds) are still renting this coming weekend. September 16th - 19th. My family and I will be there, with our two small children and cant survive much time on the beach without an umbrella. Any suggestions?

Some of the beach equipment  rental boxes will be operating until the end of the month (9/25). After that they are taken off the beach until next season. If you are going to be there a few days you can often buy an okay umbrella for less money than renting, but you have to do setup and takedown yourself.

How was OC affected by Hurrican Irene? I'm coming to OC next week and am wondering how the beaches and the general area are after the recent hurricane.

Ocean City had minor damage and cleanup due to the storm Irene. However, I've spoken to several people who were down there within days of the storm and in the weeks since then, and there is no notable damage. You likely will not even know there was a storm.

The beach did not get damaged significantly. It looks a little flatter but since the storm surge came straight into the beach the beaches did not experience the significant erosion they typically get during the nor'easter storms when the surf sweeps sand of as it currents hit the beach at a sharp angle.

Have a great time in OC!

Does it snow in Ocean City?

Yes, it does snow in OC. There have been a few significant snow storms in the last couple of winters. Generally OC gets less snow than places further inland because the water keeps winter temperatures higher. What Baltimore gets as snow OC often gets as rain.

I have been to OC for two large snowstorms in the past two years. Below you can see some pictures from the February 2009 storm. You can see more snow pictures here.
