When does the beach open?

The beach is open all year long! It is free and accessible for its entire 10 mile stretch all year long. We were on it this weekend; one day in early April my kids even spent some time in the surf!

The lifeguards return to their stands along the entire beach on Saturday of Memorial Day weekend.

Lots of shops and restaurants have already reopened, many of them open 7 days a week, especially in nice weather.

Are you able to see fire works on the 4th.of July from the board walk in o.c. ?

Yes, there are fireworks at the south end of the boardwalk, just north of the pier every year on the 4th of July. There are free concerts starting at 8pm, and the fireworks start at about 9:30.

The beach gets crowded there to see this show which is always spectacular, so you may want to get there early to find a great spot, but even getting there right before the show I've been able to find good viewing locations.

There are also fireworks as the same time at the north end of town at Northside Park at 127th Street.

Have a great time in OC!

If itis just the Bay Bridge and not bridges in general you can take 95N to  Newark/New York. Merge onto DE-1 South via 4A - Christiana Mall to DE 1 S to DE Shore Points - Route 50 Bridge. This does cross a major bridge though in Delaware.

We are planning a trip to OC for our first family vacation with our son Chase, who will be a year old on 7/1. We're looking at early June but were curious about hotels in a reasonable price range that were best for children his age - quiet at night, heated pool(s), etc.... I have a few leads but would appreciate your expert insight :)

I have young children myself so I am in your boat as well.  Two hotels that accommodate nappers the best are the Princess Royale and the Holiday Inn on 17th St.  Both are set up like one bedroom condos but have all the conveniences and amenities of hotels.

My other recommendation would be to rent a condo...this can be a more affordable way to go, but the downfall is you need to bring your own linens and set up when you get there.  Two sites I use are www.cbvacations.com and www.lfvacations.com and they provide extensive details about the units so you know exactly what you are paying for.

Happy searching and safe travels!!

I want to live and work in Ocean City Maryland. I have some hospitality experience working at hotels and resorts and also in bars and restaurants. I also have 10 years experience as front desk receptionist. That FT year round job that I would need to obtain before I even get there is illuding me. I have my youngest son who is 14 that would be coming with me and it would be a new start for us if we could just get there and make it work.

Full-time work in Ocean City proper is limited. I suggest expanding your search area to Sussex County, DE; Berlin, MD and surrounding cities. We only have one neighbor who works full-time in Ocean City proper. Most work in surrounding areas.

The trip from NYC to OCMD takes about 4.5 hours by car assuming no traffic. It is about 240 miles from the George Washington Bridge to OC. The best way to go is

Exit New York City by the best route from your location to get to the New Jersey Turnpike South.

Take the New Jersey Turnpike South to the end and cross the Delaware Memorial Bridge.

Go about 4 Miles in Delaware and get off onto US 13 South / US 40 West towards Dover.

Continue on US 13 South about 10 miles until you reach Delaware Route 1 South.

Stay on Route 1 about 50 miles until you reach Route 113. Take 113 South towards Milford or Georgetown. Continue on Route 113 South about 43 miles into Maryland.

About 8 miles after entering Maryland get onto Route 90 East.

Route 90 will take you about 4 miles into Ocean City at 62nd Street.

The NJ Turnpike, Delaware Memorial Bridge, and Delaware Route 1 are all toll roads.

The route above should take about 4.5 hours. I grew up in Connecticut so I have taken this route many times myself.

For a more interesting ride you can take the Cape May, NJ - Lewis, DE Ferry. This trip may be more scenic, but likely will take longer. If you take the ferry be sure to make a reservation in advance.
