Two of us are bringing our Mothers who are in a wheelchair and need help. Do you have any groups there who look after people that are in need so that their caretakers can have a little vacation? Thanks. joanne

I am not aware of any specific services, but suspect the provider would need to know more about your circumstances to know if they could support. I'd suggest calling either the OC Senior Center at 410.289.0824 or Atlantic General Hospital at 410.641.1100 to see if either could give you a referal to meet your needs.

There are also several care givers available who are listed under the Senior Care tab on this website. I have never used tis site so I cannot speak to the quality of these caregivers

I will be at the ocean from October 17 through October 19. What will be open on the boardwalk?

The rides are closed.  The arcades are open, as is Ripleys Believe It or Not, the Mirror Maze, Thrashers, Dollies, Candy Kitchen and Fisher's.  The other stores are hit or miss on weekdays, but open weekends. Most restaurants are still open for dinner.

Was there a tornado on Thursday 9/15/11 around 79th Street? Any damages or injuries?

Yes, there was a tornado. It started as a waterspout in the bay and then crossed over OC at 77th Street and continued into the ocean.

The damage was minor and there were no notable injuries either. You can read about it here or see a video here.

Darlene, one of the other Insiders, was there and may have some additional pictures or information.

How much wider is the beach down at the inlet than around 25th Street? I am thinking of staying at Belmont Towers, but I can see on MapQuest that the inlet is a lot wider. What do you think? Is it twice as wide, maybe?

Just north of the pier I'dd say the beach is 2 to 3 times as wide as it is most of the rest of OC. It tapers from the pier to about 10th Street and from there north the area east of the BW and dunes is generally about the same (with seasonal changes) for most of the length of OC. Since the 1991 beach replenishment and other annual refurbishments, the sand is plenty wide the whole length of  OC. Right at the inlet the beach is about the same width as it is at 25th because of the area taken up by the parking lot.

BTW, Belmont Towers is at Dorchester Street where the beach is almost as wide as it is at the pier.

How can someone get to Ocean City via bus from New York City? We want to go for 2 or 3 days in October for our 10-Year Anniversary which is on October 27th? Can you help? We're a couple on a budget.

Yes, you can take the Greyhound bus form New York to OC. There are two options on 27 October (and most days). One leaves NYC at 8:30am and arrives in OC at 3:30pm. The second leaves at 11am and arrives at 8:30pm. Prices range from $44 to $78 depending when you purchase and the options you select.

Go to https://www.greyhound.com/farefinder/step1.aspx to check schedules and fares for your exact dates and to purchase tickets.

Have a great anniversary in OC!

There are two types of reduced fare transit passes for people age 60 and over.

Passes for residents and property owners are handled through City Hall. Call 410.289.8221 to get info on how to renew. You may be able to renew by phone. The pass is $7 and is good for 2 years and provides for free bus ridership for people age 60 and over..

There is also a non-resident pass for people age 60 and over that provides for half price fares. Call 410.723.1606 or 410.289.8221 for informaiton on the non-resident pass.

Is there a place where visitors can fax business papers while on vacation?

If you are at a hotel they usually have a business center or will fax some things for you from the front desk.

If you can't do it from the place you are staying you can fax (to and from) with Beach Copy. They offer many business services including FexEx and similar pickup and drop off. They are at 5901 Coastal Highway (right next to the higway bayside at 59th Street). You can call them at 410.524.0588. During the main season they are open 9am to 5pm M-F, 9am to 3pm Sat, and are closed SUnday. You may want to call to check off season hours. They are very easy to work with.

There is also a Staples in West OC that may offer similar business services.

I know I may have asked a similar question awhile back, but is there a way I could get a permit online for street performing? And is street performing still allowed on the boardwalk? I'll be going down Summer 2012.

Street performers are allowed on the boardwalk in most areas. However, you need to get a license to perform on the boardwalk. There area limited number of permits for each season. To get the schedule and cost for 2012 permit applications as well as the restrictions on where and when you can perform, contact the City Clerk's office at 410.289.8824 or via email atkallmond@oceancitymd.gov.
