You will find approximately 60% of the stores, shops and restaurants open.  Many restaurants have specials.  Ocean City is still busy on the weekends and some boardwalk stores are open.  Find a hotel with an ocean view and indoor pool, close your eyes and dream it is July!  It is still a nice time to be in Ocean City.

My family used to visit Ocean City every summer, but, this year, we're looking to go in September. What's Ocean City like in September? Is much still open on the boardwalk? Thanks in advance for your help!

You will find all of Ocean City still open except for some of the outdoor rides and waterparks.  Ocean City is in full swing until the end of Sun Fest.

Yes, we see people with metal detectors on the beach often. Early morning and late afternoon are great times to do so.  Have fun and I hope you find buried treasure!

In New Jersey you pay to get on the beach.

At Delaware state parks, you pay to park and go on the beach.

At Ocean City Maryland, no tags are needed, the beach is free!

If you live locally or not locally, if you come from Delaware or New Jersey or any state.  Even  if you come from out of state over 3,000 miles away, you can be on our beaches for free!

We are taking our 7&8 yrs old sons to OC for the first time. We are looking for a family friendly hotel on the beach located as close to all as possible. We are planning to go to the amusement part of boardwalk, sunset park, the wild ponies, life saving station, music at Division St beach, Northsde Park, and are looking for some local famous crab houses. Our kids love crabs and corn on the cob.

Two other suggestions for you:  The Princess Royale on 91st St or a condo rental.  If you go the condo route, buildings I recommend are the Quay, Golden Sands, Capri, English Towers, and Century I.  Two extensive sites to check out individual units are www.cbvacations.com and www.lfvacations.com.

As for crab houses, check out Hooper's on Rt. 50....they have awesome views and the corn on the cob is roasted right in the husk.  After a crab feast there, it is a short drive to the boardwalk where you can check out the Lifesaving Museum, music, and finish off the night with some rides and ice cream from Dumser's or frozen custard from Kohr's brothers.

Have a great trip!!

What would be the best Ocean City beach location for someone using a wheelchair? Are there any with paved or concrete walkways to get close to the water? Not interested in the beach whelchairs, as those I believe require someone to push...

Ocean City's beaches are for everyone. So we provide access for the physically challenged at several locations. Look for the special blue signs at these street entrances along Coastal Highway:

Inlet Beach, Somerset St., Talbot St., N. Division 12th St. 25th St. 35th St., 37th St., 40th St., 48th St., 59th St., 70th St., 81st St., 89th St., 94th St., 107th St., 120th St., 130th St., 139th St., 145th St.

The further north you get in Ocean City, the thinner the beach.  You could go to one of the north Ocean City beaches and be closer to the ocean than you would below 48th St.

Are coolers allowed on the beach? And the second question is there something down in OC that can be used to have a kids party for 6 people. Something like chuck e cheese or anything for kids ages 3 and 5.

Yes, you can bring a cooler to the beach.

For a party I suggest one of the Indoor Mini golf locations.  My favorite is the new one on 136th St. They have an arcade with prizes, indoor seating and serve kid friendly food.  They will help you to plan a party!

The application for 2012 has not been released yet, but it should be very close to this years form.  The 2012 form should be released in the late winter/ early spring of 2012 on the website noted.
