Hi Insiders! I was wondering if you could tell me if there have been any sharks spotted near the beach in OCMD? If so, what kind of sharks were spotted?

There have not been any sighted ever while we have been on the beach.  Sometimes the fin of a ray can be seen and that kind of looks like a shark, but there are typically no sharks sighted.  There are definitely sharks in the water - it is the ocean.  One amazing statistic that I hear every year is that Maryland has never had a reported shark attack.  It is the only state on the east coast to claim this.  You can see people catch sand sharks off the beach at night and you can take a shark boat out of MR Ducks that catches and releases sharks.  They go several miles off-shore though.  I do not think you have anything to fear.

Hello! I am looking to become a vendor at future Ocean City, Maryland events. How do I begin this process? Thank you!

How you become a vendor depends on what event you want to be a vendor for. In each case you need to contact the event sponsor for specific instructions.

Many events in town are sponsored by OC's Special Events Department.  If you want to be considered for Springfest or Sunfest, you work with them. For Springfest 2108 you can access the Springfest 2018 Vendor Applications here. They are due by 1 March 2018. For Sunfest 2018 you can access the Sunfest 2018 Vendor Applications here. It is due by 1 June 2018. The applications have lots of useful information. There is a $25 non-refundable  application/jury fee and not all applicants receive spots as these are juried shows where vendors are selected based on their specific wares. Booths spots cost $635 or more. The application forms provide detailed directions and much more information. You can contact the Special Events group via their webpage or call them at 410.250.0125 to find out more.

Many of the car shows and other events are run by Special Event Pro. Contact them through their webpage or by phone at 410.798.6304 to find out how to be a vendor at these events.

Ocean Promotions sponsors several Craft Shows.

Spring and Fall Bike Week / Bikefest also have vendors.

Hi! I was wondering if OCMD was planning to add a new book store this year. Thanks!

I have heard of no plans for a new bookstore in town. I believe that the only one left is Down Under Books in the basement of the Langford Hotel between 8th and 9th Streets

In July, I am hoping to propose during my visit to OC. I am wondering if any local photography studio would photograph at night. Additionally, will be fireworks every Monday and Tuesday in July, like previous years?

Hello Insiders! I'm hoping to get some information for my child renting for their Senior Week. Are there only certain businesses that will rent to an 18 year-old? Any direction would be much appreciated!

Yes, only certain places will rent to people under 21, and many of those that will rent to younger people may require someone to co-sign the rental agreement.

The OC Chamber of Commerce has a nice list of Senior Week apartment, condo, hotel, and motel rentals. You can access it here.

There are owners who will rent to seniors, but most of them work through rental agencies. If you want a house or apartment, checkout these two sites. I have no experience with any of these places so I can't tell you anything about them:

Various Condos: http://www.century21newhorizon.com/ocean-city-senior-week.htm

Peaceful bay Apts (on St Louis Street): http://peacefulbay.tripod.com/junegrads.html

If you want a hotel/hotel, here are some motels will rent to people under 21:

Sahara, 19th Street on the boardwalk with ocean block buildings too. Outdoor pool. A basic motel that will be clean, but will not have lots of amenities. http://www.saharamotel.com/

Tides, 71st Street, outdoor pool, ocean block. A basic motel that will be clean, but will not have lots of amenities. http://www.tidesmotel.com/

Beachmark, 73rd Street, outdoor pool, ocean block. A basic motel that will be clean, but will not have lots of amenities. http://www.beachmarkmotel.com/

These are all good, basic places that I routinely recommend.

You need to ask about check-in and check-out times, property-specific regulations, security deposit requirements, who can sign the rental agreement (do you need someone over 18, 21, 25 to sign the lease). You also need to be aware that many properties have strictly enforced eviction notices in their agreements for violations of noise, alcohol, and other ordinances.

Also, be sure to checkout "Play Is Safe Ocean City" for Sr. week tips, activities, and discounts including reduced fare bus rides.

Your best option would be to register your car for the show and get a trailer pass from the event organizers so you can legally park on the street, but not on Baltimore Ave.  The cost for the parking permit is $50.   Aside from that, you can park at the West Ocean City Park and Ride on Rte 50 , but only on Friday and Saturday of the show.  But it is free there.  Limited paid trailer parking is available at the 100th St. Parking Lot.  You can get your permit for this lot at the pay station there.

Those are  your only options unless your hotel or rental allows you to park it on their property.  But there is no on street parking anywhere in OC without that permit.  And there is a hefty fine without it.

Is it possible to camp on the beach? Specifically, I'm hoping to do this during Jeep Week. Thanks!

Derrick, no camping is allowed on Ocean City Beach at any time.

There is campgrounds in the area that do allow camping. Please check them out below.

Assateague Island camping would be the closest thing to camping on the beach.

They are allowed between now and May 1 to be on the boardwalk. As far as I can read the law, they cannot be in the arcade unless they are a service dog.

If you are bringing your best friend with you to OC, I suggest that you stay at The Barefoot Mailman. They cater to pet lovers. If you go to www.ococean.com you can search for hotels and choose The Barefoot Mailman.

Enjoy OC!

Ocean City is celebrating the New Year with the introduction of the highly anticipated bus locator application.  Debuting on New Year’s Eve, the enhanced service will allow bus patrons to view real-time location of busses with the TransLoc Rider app.

Available for both iOS and Android, users of the app can watch Ocean City buses moving in real time, as well get an accurate arrival prediction of busses to their exact location via the app’s text messaging feature.  Further, the TransLoc Rider app allows users to set favorite routes, get personal alerts and ultimately makes transit more accessible and convenient for patrons.

“We are continuously exploring ways to improve public transportation in Ocean City, making it an easier and more enjoyable experience for our residents and visitors,” commented Ocean City Mayor Rick Meehan.  “We know that time is valuable and the TransLoc Rider app gives patrons the ability to know exactly what time the bus will reach them. It’s easy to use and answers the primary question our riders have….where’s the bus?”

To track your bus in real time with the new bus locator, users can download the TransLoc Rider App from the App Store or visit oct.transloc.com.  Patrons can also text the Bus Stop ID number (found at each bus stop) to 414-11.
