Hi Lisa, the rides will be closed during those times during the week. the beach should not be as crowded then because a lot of people are back to work and school. i would recommend trying different activites around the city. there's indoor mini-golf, arcades, etc. for the kids. you can visit www.ococean.com for more information.

What time do the boardwalk stores and arcades close?

hi cristian, most of the boardwalk stores during this time of year stay open until around midnight or so. the arcades usually close around that time as well.

You can fly kites on the beach anytime and anywhere - as long as you are not interfering with other people. Generally the lifeguards let you fly kites closer to the dunes or boardwalk on the west edge of the beach with no restrictions.

The Kite Festival held 18 - 21 September, is centered between 2nd and 6th Street, near the Kite Loft. Find out more here.

I'm coming there September 25 - September 28th and was wondering what events were planned for those dates and what specials there are as for as breakfast buffets and breakfast and lunch around 15th st on the boardwalk. I'm staying at the Harrison Hotel.

Hi Nick, I would recommend Dough Roller as a great choice when it comes to breakfast. You can walk over to the Captain's table and have their breakfast as well. If you choose not to go to those then I would recommend Layton's 1601 Philadephia Ave. not too far down the street. we have gone there for years and the breakfast is fabulous! Have a great time!

I'm coming by Amtrak bus, where do I get off? What bus do I get to get to 60th St. & the Bay?

If you are coming by Amtrak-connected bus, this will be a Greyhound. You will get off the bus at the West OC Greyhound/Park-n-Ride station. From there, you take a city bus to the South Division Street Transportation Center (about a 3 minute ride) and from there you can switch to a bus on the main city bus line that will take you to 60th Street. The cost for these buses is $3 total, and this fare will allow you to ride the city buses all day.

If I am going to do a day trip to the public beach (driving 3 hours so not close to home), is there any place to change to be able to sit at the beach AND do some other activities while we are there?

Hello Jo,

Here what I would recommend.  Go over to Assateague Island and utlize their showers and changing faclilities for a small fee.  You can enjoy ther beach on a less crowded beach.  Then after showering, head over to OC, to stroll the boardwalk.

It's been my experience that if you could be at the bridge around 3- 3:30, you should be ok - around 4:00 to 5:30 seems to be the time to avoi. Here's a phone number to call that can take the guess work out of it, 1-877-229-7726 THIS is the number for the Bay Bridge live up to the minute traffic report. It will let you know how the pattern is flowing before, & after bridge, and also tell you how many lanes are open, in both directions.

Can you park at the West Ocean City Park & Ride overnight for free? Our hotel only allows one car space per room and we will likely end up with an extra car. Thanks for your help

The signage at the West OC Park & Ride lot is a little confusing (see below), so I called the Transportation Department (410.723.1606) to see if one can leave a car parked at the West OC Park & Ride lot overnight for multiple nights. The person I spoke to said that while oversized vehicles and trailers cannot be parked there overnight, passenger cars may be left there overnight and for multiple days as long as parking enforcement can see that no one is sleeping in them. Like all places, they will not be responsible for your car, although I have not heard of any incidents at this lot related to break ins or similar.

If your hotel is not in West OC, there are alternatives that may actually be better for you. Most of the side streets north of 10th Street have free parking. I have often parked on these streets and left my car there for several days with no issue. Just check the signs in the area where you park, as some streets have specific hours where parking is prohibited due to street cleaning, trash pickup, and similar.

Is a permit required to professionally photograph families on the beach and boardwalk? My husband and I vacation with our daughter at OC every year and we'd love to offer our luxury vacation albums to other OC lovers. Thanks so much for any helpful information! -Deanna

Taking photographs on the beach or boardwalk is fine for individuals, but if you are operating a business in OC, then you need a business license. You can find out more about requirements for operating businesses in OC here. The fee for a photography business for such a license is $174, as noted here. I suspect if you are just going to take pictures in OC, and then self publish a book of your pictures once you get home, that you could do so with no license. However, if you are offering photography services, including photographing other OC visitors for a fee, then you would definitely need a license. Your best bet if you want to operate such a business you should call the City Clerk's Office at 410.289.8842. They can give you the best guidance or direct you to someone who can.

Note that while use of the beach for taking pictures could likely be fairly easily permitted with a business license, that soliciting beach goers for photography, similar to what the Telescope Photography businesses do, is controlled by franchise agreemetns that are bid on and issued periodically. Gaining such a franchise is a much more complex process. The city clerk's office can also provide you info on how your potential business venture would relate to these franchise operations.
