Ocean City is wonderful in September. The weather is still warm, the ocean water is at its warmest, and the crowds are light.  There is a slower, more relaxed feel to the town. The crazieness of the boardwalk is light, the rides are shut down except for weekends, and there are still plenty of events going on to enjoy.  Check them out at www.ococean.com/events

It's truly a perfect time to visit Ocean City! The crowds are LIGHT (compared to summer). You'll find that most everything is open.

Hotel rates have just dropped - you can take advantage of this - seach for lodging by clicking here-Accommodations - Ocean City, MD .

3 & 4th are middle of the week, so traffic will be a no issue as well.

Enjoy your OC vacation!

We are visiting the week of Sunfest and wondering if amusement rides will be open. My son is 30 but autistic and loves the rides.

Trimper's plans to be open with most rides operating during the entire time Sunfest is going on. See their schedule here. They will open at 1pm on Thursday and Friday, and noon on Saturday and Sunday.

Jolly Roger at the Pier has not finalized any plans for if they will be open then. As it gets closer, check their shcedule website or call them at 410.289.3477.

Have a great time at Sunfest!

What area of ocean city is the quietest (relatively) meaning not a lot of young adults or families?

Hello Kathi,

Ocean City is ten miles long. The inlet located at the southern most point, is where you'll find the most activity - this slowly fades the further north you go... while it's a bit easier to avoid the young adult crowds by doing this, please keep in mind that the town prides itself on being a family destination, so you will have families with kids even at the most norther end of the city.

If you're looking to limit your exposure to the family scene as much as possible, I would suggest staying at either The Edge at Fager's Island or Fagers Island Lighthouse Club  these are part of an adult ONLY hotel, each unit has a different theme with custom made furniture, and both offer spectacular views of the bay, and picture perfect sunsets. The restaurant is open to families, but there is no playground, so it will not be filled with children running around everywhere.

Enjoy your time in OC

I have been on the OC boardwalk every month of the year and there has only been one time that I have seen most stores closed and that was during one of the few rare blizzards that covered the boardwalk.   Back in the mid 80's and before, OC would turn all of their stop lights to blinking mode in the off season.  You could get from Delaware to the inlet in 10 minutes easily.  Now OC is a year round town and the local business' know that and they stay open to cater to the visitors.  there will still be Claire's on the boardwalk, especially in the evenings and on weekdays but come weekends, I have seen the boardwalk crowded especially in Oct-Dec on nice weekends and of course on St Pattys weekend.  Even on Valentines weekend, there are crowds.   The slowest time of the year would be January but evwn hen, you will find places open on the boardwalk.

The bus runs from 144th Street at the north end of town (2 blocks from Delaware) to South Division Street at the south end (2 blocks from the inlet). For reference, the North OC Bus station, shown below, is immediately north of the Sun & Surf Cinema. You can get more info on OC buses here.

Hi Sheila,

You will find basically everything open after Labor Day especially for the month of September.  The exceptions may be limited ride days/hours on the pier and at Trimpers.  September after Labor Day is a great time to be at the beach.

Hi Insiders, Do you know if you can still do the memorial brick? I wanted to do one for my mom who passed away in June. Thank you.

You take the Beach Bus south from a stop on the west side of Coastal Highway, just south of 17th Street, to the South Division Street Transportation Center. This is the southernmost end of this bus line These buses run every 15 minutes during the day until the end of October. In the winter, they run every 40 minutes. From there, you take the West-OC Park-N-Ride bus which includes a stop at the Tanger Outlets near the Pac-Sun store. The West OC Park-N-Ride bus runs until 1 September and then will also run 9/11-13, 9/18-21, and 10/9-12. It runs from 6am to 2am until 9/1 and until 10pm on the later dates.

You can ride these buses an unlimited number of times per day for $3/day. The day begins and ends at 6am.

You can get more info about OC transit options here, and see the complete schedule here.

Hi Dorothy.  I own a TJ.  Jeep Week has been a blast so far.

The doors can legally come off.  You must have a driver's side mirror though.  The police enforce this law and will ticket you if you do not have one.  Keep on Jeepin'!
