Where is a very cheap place to plan a very cheap wedding reception? Im looking for nice fire halls/ banquet centers since I will be doing the food myself. A hotel will work too but I cannot afford a $3000 wedding.

Congratulations on your upcoming marriage! Here are a few places you can try to plan for the wedding reception:

The American Legion on 24th Street and Philadelphia Avenue rents their hall. You can find out more here or call them at  410.289.3166.

The Knights of Columbus at 99th Street bayside behind the Catholic Church has a hall that will hold 150 people. You can find out more here or call them at 410.524.7994.

The VFW on 66th Street (behind Galaxy 66 on the bayside) has a hall. Call them to see if they rent it for weddings and for other information. Their number is 410.524.8196.

The Elks Lodge at 138th has a rental hall they rent for weddings. Call them at 410.250.2645 for more info.

There is also a place right on the bay, just north of the Convention Center at 42nd Street called the Sunset Room. I don't know anything about it, but it has always looked to me like a great venue. Call 410.723.8619 to find out about it.

Good luck planning your reception.

If you are talking about this past weekend, there were a lot (thousands!) of VW, Audi and other tuner cars in town for The H2O International VW/Audi festival held at Fort Waley about 15 miles west of OC. It got a bit noisy at times down there!

The H2O International show had no ties to the city, but many participants stayed in town. OC has several other similar events, many of them with city permits (and thus sime level of greater regulation) to use facilities such as the boardwalk or inlet parking lot (H2O was all held at private locations). These events include Bike Week/Bikefest and the upcoming Corvette Weekend and Endless Summer Cruisin'. There are a other similar events throughout the year.

I am looking for the name of the company that has an umbrella/beach rental box on a few streets throughout Ocean City. They operated the one on 19th street this summer, I believe it's S & K...but I cannot find anything when I look up that name. If anyone knows this company please let me know, they have been in this business for years.

Most of the places are on the boardwalk.  One store is Hollywood Art and Henna right next to OC Babies on 19 Atlantic Ave (On the boardwalk).   Here is a Facebook page for another Henna Tatoo place located at 300 S Boardwalk.

I understand some of the scooter rentals are selling their bike inventory.I would like info on buying ,

OC Fun Cycles (26th) 410.289.5858

OC Baysports / Odyssea Watersports (58th) 410.524.0209

Island Cycles (Somerset Street) 410.289.5040- Website is for parts, but I know they sell used scooters, call them for info.

Is the boardwalk still open now that it's fall? We plan on being there the first weekend in October and want to make sure there are places to shop & eat.

The boardwalk is open year round, with many shops open on weekends when the weather is nice. In October some things will be open during the week, but many on weekends. Many restaurants around town will also still be open. More business will be open between now and Columbus Day, and fewer (but still plenty) after Columbus Day. I go to OC year round, and I always find plenty to do and plenty of great places to eat.

Boardwalk favorites  Thrasher's Fries, Dumser's ice cream, Fisher's popcorn (my favorite!), Candy Kitchen are almost always open on the weekends and sometimes on weekdays, especially in October.

Beyond the boardwalk, here are some more ideas of fun things to do:

Rent a bike and ride down the boardwalk all day long!

Go to an Arcade - Marty's Playland is open everyday!

Play indoor mini golf at one of the two Old Pro Indoor Courses. They are open everyday.

Play Laser Tag at Planet Maze. They are closed Tuesday-Thursday.

Go Ice Skating or see an ice skating show at the Carousel.

In early October it is still warm enough to do a kayak tour - checkout SuperFun Eco Tours - I've been out with them several times and they do a great job! (call ahead to make a reservation - 410.524.9453)

Visit the Art League Art Gallery at 94th Street to see some cool local art (FREE!)

Go bowling at 72nd Street Ocean Lanes. Call ahead to check for lane availability (410.524.7550) and be aware, they take cash only.

Get some crabs from Crabs-to-Go or Bahama Mamas to feel a bit more like summer. Both of these places have excellent crabs year round.

Go shopping at the shops in nearby Berlin.

Go see a movie.

Drive down to Assateague Island and see the ponies - be sure to stop at the Visitor's Center just before crossing the bridge - they have some great exhibits!

If it is a warm day, checkout some WWII history at Fort Miles in Lewis, DE.

Go to the Salisbury Zoo - It is about 30 miles away. It is a nice community zoo, and it is free!

If you go to the Visitor's Center at the Convention Center, they usually have a list of what restaurants are open when for the off season and a list of things to do. Most restaurants in large hotels are open year round

I always recommend staying at a place with an indoor pool in the off season, as it provides something to do if the weather is not nice.

Below is a picture of the boardwalk on a weekend in early November. You can see there is still lots going on!

Have fun in OC this fall!

for Sunfest weekend, you can ride the tram from 10am to midnight each day except Sunday where it ends at 6pm.

The ocean breeze, beach, sand, and family atmosphere are just a few of the reasons why you will want to ride the Ocean City boardwalk trams during your visit to Ocean City! The comfortable boardwalk trams can take you the whole length of the boardwalk, which travels from the Inlet to the North Booth at 27th Street. The Boardwalk tram will stop at most any location along the route to load or discharge passengers. The best part of the half-hour ride will be the detour that takes you on the pier close to the ocean where you can see, hear, and sometimes even feel the ocean water. Now you know you are in Ocean City, Maryland!

Tram fare is $3.00 per person, per boarding, one way ride. Discount fare punch cards are available at $20 for 8 rides.  Inquire at either Tram Station or with a Tram Conductor.

New unlimited ride pass, which costs $6, a passenger can get on and off the Boardwalk tram as much as they like between the hours of 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. daily. The unlimited ride pass will not be available during Springfest, Sunfest, OC Air Show weekend, July 4th weekend or Labor Day weekend. Unlimited ride passes will be sold at both north and south ticket booths and on any tram.

Taking the "B"....can you pay on the bus for the all day $3 ticket or do you have to go to a station?

You can pay cash when you get on the bus. It is $3 to ride all day (a day starts and ends at 6am) or $1/ride. For more information on the bus and other OC Transportation look here.

Really far reaching question I know, but someone mentioned the Purple Pad. A dear high school friend's family owned that house, and when thefather died he left it to her. Her name then was Kristi Karpinski. We are having our 40th reunion in a couple of days, and no one can find her. Is there anyone in Ocean City right now that can look her up? If so, tell her to go to the Albert Einstein class of '73. Tell her Tina and Sandy are looking for her. We want her to come. This is somewhat urgent- the reunion is the 20, and 21st. Thanks so much.

Wow, a tough question.  If you can get me an address of the property, I can do a deed search to find out the exact legal name of the owner or you can try it yourself by visiting: SDAT.  (When searching: Ocean City is in Worcester County) You can also try going to www.anywho.com and putting in "Karpinski" and Ocean City, MD to get some relatives.  I just tried it and three names came up.
