A few years ago, I remember the city being divided between more lively action downtown, while uptown was a little quieter. Is this still true?

I would say it is.  Things get a little quieter above 25th Street, then 100th Street.  OC is also a quieter the farther you get from Ocean Highway.

Hello! We're a family of four with two teens. We're trying to get a good gauge on fun things to do without breaking the bank. Thanks!

You can do lots of fun family  things for reasonable prices in OC. If you are coming in-season there are free events almost every night. Take a look here at some fun FREE family activities.

Be sure to stop by the Convention Center Visitor's Center (shown above) at 40th Street for many more ideas and great discount offers. Here are some more ideas of ways to have fun:

Spend the day enjoying OC's fabulous beach. It is completely public, accessible, guarded, clean and FREE!

In the evening, take a walk on the boardwalk at the south end of town. Enjoy a treat from boardwalk favorites  Thrasher's Fries, Dumser's ice cream, Fisher's popcorn (my favorite!), or Candy Kitchen. Marty's Playland  arcade and Trimper's Rides Amusement Park are favorites of my kids. In the morning you can rent bikes (or bring your own) to ride on the boardwalk until 11am. I usually use Bike World at Caroline Street.

If your kids like go carts, checkout Speedworld (32nd Street) or  at Baja Amusements (410.213.2252, West OC)  My kids have a great time there!

If you like waterparks, checkout Splash Mountain (30th Street) or Thunder Lagoon (north OC).

If you want to try something different, consider a kayak tripAssateague Outfitters does several great trips, and no prior kayak experience is required. I've been out with them several times with people ranging from a age 6 to 70.

Take a trip down to Assateague. It is only about a 15 minute drive. There is a great Visitor's Center on the right. It has lots of great interactive and touch-type exhibits, and a few short interesting movies about Assateague. You can drive a fair distance on Assateague before entering the fee area, and I almost always see the wild horses in the free area. There are some great hikes in the fee area that you may want to consider if the weather is nice.

Play mini golf at the Old Pro Courses.

Go to Planet Maze (410.524.4386) for some Laser Tag - They are often open limited hours at this time of year - Often Friday - Monday.

Go Ice Skating or enjoy a skating show at the Carousel at 120th Street.

Have a great trip to OC!

Can anyone suggest any book stores or stores that sell books, especially ones about the beach and maybe local beaches? Thanks so much!

One of the best places to find books about Ocean City Md is at the gift shop inside the Life Saving Station Museum at the inlet on the boardwalk.   They have a lot to choose from and are reasonably priced, plus you would be helping out the museum.  You can find a lot of information about the area at the Visitor Center inside the Convention Center on 40th St. as well.  Also, send for a free visitor guide at http://www.ococean.com/vacation-guide

Can dogs be on the beach and Boardwalk in April?

Hi Stacey, yes they can.  Dogs are allowed on the beach and boardwalk between October 1 and May 1. From May 1 until October 1, they are banned.  Just remember to clean up after your dog and to keep it on a leash while you're out and about.

Thank you for your question.

I'm looking to have a bonfire on the beach. What is the process of making this happen? Are there any vendors that setup this kind of thing?

Bonfires or fires of any kind are prohibited on all 10  miles of Ocean City's beach unless you have a permit from the city fire department.  The cost of the permit is $75 and is non refundable.  There are heavy regulations about what you can and cannot burn, when you can have it, and about clean up afterwards. If the beach is not left as clean as it was prior to the fire, the permit holder will be billed $100.  As far as I am aware, there are no companies that will do this for you.  The application for the permit and regulations can be found here https://oceancitymd.gov/Fire_Department/FireMarshal/forms/BonfirePermit.pdf

Ocean City does host a family bonfire on the beach each year. This year's event will be October 6, 2017. For information about this event, and all events in Ocean City for this year, check http://www.ococean.com/events

My husband and I are searching for a budget-friendly, clean, family resort for my family to visit for a few days over spring break. I have 15 year-old twins, a 16 year-old son and a 3 year-old toddler. We would prefer to have a kitchenette to cook in. We would also like a place with an indoor pool (kid-friendly), and would like to be near attractions for the kids. Any suggestions?

I'd suggest any of these places:

Dunes Manor. It is a great property in a great location and is reasonably priced. My family has often stayed there. They have an indoor/outdoor pool, but my kids swam in it one year on Christmas Day.

Comfort Inn Boardwalk (410.289.5155) is oceanfront on the boardwalk at 5th Street. They also have an ocean block building that will be less expensive. It is near the south end of the boardwalk where there isplenty to do. They have indoor and outdoor pools, but the outdoor one is likely no open yet. My son stayed there a couple of summers ago, and .said it was great.

Francis Scott Key Resort (410.213-0088) is on Route 50 in West OC. They will be the most affordable place here and are a quick drive to OC. They have a great indoor water park.

Anywhere on the boardwalk will be in walking distance, or if you're at the farthest end of the boards, you can ride the boardwalk tram from 27th St. to the Inlet and Springfest. Some boardwalk hotels I can recommend are:

Comfort Inn Boardwalk

Park Place Hotel

The Commander Hotel

The Breakers Hotel

Courtyard by Marriott

Holiday Inn Suites

Grand Hotel
