I'm planning on bringing my dog to Ocean City. Any information regarding pets I should be made aware of/pet-friendly recommendations is greatly appreciated!

The biggest thing to remember is that in the summer your dogs cannot be on the beach but there are plenty of places to take your best friend.

I highly recommend The Barefoot Mailiman as a place to stay. They cater to you and your best friend. Go to and you can search for dates that this hotel has.

The first thing you need to know it that dogs are NOT allowed on either the beach or the boardwalk until October 1. So if  you're bringing your pup before then, please obey the law. The city has been very strict this year about enforcement and will hand out citations to violators.  Other than the beach and boardwalk, your pet is welcome almost everywhere as long as it's on a leash, and you clean up after it.

Check out the Safari Hotel, the Clarion, and the Barefoot Mailman.  All of these are pet friendly.

Thank you for your question.

There are lots of government issued rules and regulations related to dogs, and each property has its own rules too. Here are some of the more important ones:

Dogs are not allowed on the OC beach or boardwalk or beach anytime from 1 May to 30 September. Leashed dogs are allowed on the beach and boardwalk from 1 October to 30 April.

Leashed dogs are allowed on other OC Streets and in OC's parks, including Northside Park at 127th Street.

There is a dog park at 94th Street that you can access for a fee. Dogs using that park must have current vaccinations.

Dogs are not allowed on city buses or the boardwalk tram.

Most rental condo properties do not allow renters to have dogs, but do allow owners to have them.

Dogs are not allowed in most pubic areas of Assateague State Park between Memorial Day weekend and Labor Day. They are allowed in portions of the Assateague National Seashore, but are subject to restrictions. See this site for more info on pets at Assateague Nations Seashore.

ADA-approved service dogs are obviously an exception to most of these restrictions.

I recommend the Clarion at 101st Street. It is one of the few dog friendly places open year round. If you are coming in season, here are few more options:

The Safari Motel - Ocean front on the boardwalk at 13th Street is one of the few (or only) pet friendly hotels on the boardwalk (

Barefoot Mailman - Ocean block on 35th Street (

Windjammer Apartments - Ocean front, 46th Street. A nice older property with studio, 1BR, 2BR, and 3BR apartments. I stayed there for many years. (

Coastal Palms Inn and Suites - Ocean block 120th Street. It was recently taken over by the Carousel and completely redone. It is very nice. Staying here provides access to many of the Carousel's amenities (just 2 blocks away). Also has an outdoor pool and free loaner beach chairs (

OC is very pet friendly!  There are great walking parks all over Ocean City and all offer free poop bags.  Northside Park is a great place to walk your dog.   There is also a dog park in Ocean City - information can be found here:

The biggest thing to know is that dogs are not allowed on the Boardwalk or beach from May 1st through September 30th.   Dogs must also be leashed at all times.
