Hi. My husband and I would like to renew our vows, and we were thinking on the beach of Assateague would be amazing. How do we go about this and since we are renewing our vows we don't have to get a license--correct? If you could give me some contact names that would be helpful! Thank you! Michele

You are correct. Renewing your vows is purely ceremonial, so no license is required. I don't know if there are any restrictions on using the Assateague beach for such events, but you can call the State Park at 800.830.3974 and the National Seashore at 410.641.1441 to check.

If you want to use the beach in OC, you need to coordinate a time and location with the Mayor's Office. You can call them at 410.289.8931 to do this. There is no fee. In the off season you should be able to use the beach pretty much anytime all day, but in season you may need to your event before 10am or after 5:30pm. In addition to the beach, OC's Parks, particularly Northside Park (on their pier) and  Sunset Park are also great locations fo renewing your vows. If you want to use a park, call the Recreation and Parks Department at 410.250.0125 to coordinate your event and find out more.

Checkout this page for a good overview holding a wedding in OC, it may also have useful info for your renewal.

Great question Michele. I know when one is renewing their vows nothing special is needed other than permission to have a large group with facilities etc. you will need to contact the headquarters office for details. 410-641-2120. Enjoy! Afterwards come to ocean city to feast at one of our delicious restaurants!!

Assateague is a lovely location.  You may want to consider a private charter of the Assateague Adventure.  They could take you to a lovely deserted area of the park for a ceremony then drop you off at a local restaurant for a celebration afterwards.  That would be a very memorable event!   Find them at http://www.mrducks.com/assateagueadventure.html

You don't need anything other than you, your spouse, and an officiant.   Assateague does get crowded in the summer plus you have the horses to deal with. But it is a lovely place.  Sunset at Northside Park is breathtaking, and you could do it under the gazebo on the pier........or at the end of the pier.   Or even on the pretty little bridge that goes over the water.  That would make for some really nice photos.  Sunset Park is very nice too, but be sure and check their concert schedule so that your times don't overlap.  My husband and I are married 45 years now, and we're hoping to renew our vows on the beach for our 50th. God's blessings on you both for many more years together. Congratulations.

That's a nice choice Michele, as Assateague has some amazing sunsets!

Just make sure that you don't step in any horse doodoo. :)
