I have gone to OC for Thanksgiving for many recent years. We have kids ages 12 to 19, and we always find plenty to do and have a great time.

If the weather is nice, some of the Boardwalk shops will be open, especially Friday - Sunday. Boardwalk favorites  Thrasher's Fries, Dumser's ice cream, Fisher's popcorn (my favorite!), Candy Kitchen are almost always open on the weekends and sometimes on weekdays. Many restaurants are open year round, but some only on weekends. If you go to the Visitor's Center at the Convention Center, they usually have a list of what restaurants are open when for the off season. Most restaurants in large hotels are open year round.

Here are a few other ideas:

Go to Winterfest of Lights and enjoy one off the nation's premier holiday lights shows. It is at Northside Park at 125th Street every evening.

Play indoor mini golf at one of the two Old Pro Indoor Courses. They are open everyday.

Go to an Arcade - Marty's Playland is open everyday!

Get some crabs from Crabs-to-Go or Bahama Mamas to feel a bit more like summer. Both of these places have excellent crabs year round.

Go bowling at 72nd Street Ocean Lanes. Call ahead to check for lane availability (410.524.7550) and be aware, they take cash only. We often go the day before Thanksgiving!

Play Laser Tag at Planet Maze. They are closed Tuesday-Thursday.

Go Ice Skating  at the Carousel.

Go shopping at the shops in nearby Berlin.

Go see a movie.

If it is a warm day, checkout some WWII history at Fort Miles in Lewis, DE.

Go to the Salisbury Zoo - It is about 30 miles away. It is a nice community zoo, and it is free!

I always recommend staying at a place with an indoor pool in the off season, as it provides something to do if the weather is not nice.

Have fun in OC this winter!

Well, a lot of the places on the boardwalk will be open, but expect them to close by 5 during the week. They will stay open longer on the weekend.  No rides will be open though.

November 23 is the Ravens vs. Steelers 5 K race on the boardwalk beginning at 27th St, running to 1st St. and back. The event also includes various football-related challenges, such as a 40-yard Dash, Football Bomb Toss, Accuracy Toss, and Football Agility Drill.  These games and activities are for all football fans.  The main goal is to have fun!  Beach activities will take place on the beach between 25th and 27th Streets.  Registration is at 27th Street from 7:00-11:00 a.m.  There are two locations for Event Headquarters, 28th Street Pit & Pub and Buxy's Salty Dog Saloon, both located on 28th Street.  For more information, visit www.octrirunning.com.

November 29th - December 1st is the Holiday Shoppers Fair at the Convention Center on 40th St.

Quality photography, florals, jewelry, nautical items, toys, candles, and more.  Children's activities are offered, along with a visit from Santa. A Non-Shoppers Lounge will be available also.  Admission.  Friday & Saturday, 10 a.m. -5 p.m.; Sunday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.  For more information, contact Melanie Collins at 410-723-8605 or 800-OC-OCEAN.

Of course, you can still visit Assateague, the Life Saving Station Museum, Ripleys, there is a free zoo in Salisbury, a casino and horse race track in nearby Berlin, indoor mini golf, ice skating at the Carousel, and shopping at the outlets in West Ocean City.

Off season is my favorite time because I can explore the town and neighboring areas at leisure without fighting traffic.  There's a lot to discover around Ocean City. Stop at the Convention Center when you get into town and pick up a free Visitor Guide and discover all there is to do and see in OC.

There is Winterfest, the best holiday light show in the state of MD and a holiday shoppers fair at the convention center the weekend after Thanksgiving.  On Black Friday,, the outlets will be open and have specials galore, and you will find many local businesses still open this time of year as well.

Hello Kay,

Karl and Darlene gave you great answers and I will also add some insight.  As mentioned. Old Pro Golf will have indoor Mini Golf available on 68th and 136th Sts.  We have done both and both are great, however, my kids love the one at 136th St.  After playing, you can walk on over to the arcade inside and play skee ball and other games like the ones on the boardwalk.  You can earn tickets as well to trade in on prizes.  In my opinion, the best prize is the free game of mini golf so you may want to play the games first!

In the late fall and winter months, there are less people to pick up seashells, so the pickins are better this time of year!  Last Thanksgiving, we picked up at least 8 full sized whelk shells.  The kids were excited and of course I was as well!  :)

It's very relaxing walking the beach this time of year.  Dress Warmly!

Speaking of dressing warmly, be sure to head up to Northside Park on 126th St and ride through the park on a boardwalk tram admiring the thousand of Christmas lights in the Winterfest of Lights display.  It starts every evening after dusk.  Santa will be there as well in the tent and the kids can have their picture taken with him.  As I said, you will be on an open air boardwalk tram and it will be after dusk SO... Dress warm.  Bring a blanket if you like as well as a hat and gloves.  After the tour, come inside the tent for a warm cup of hot chocolate and walk through the gift shop inside.
