U.S. Marines to Support OC Air Show with Rare Harrier Demo
Military demos will also include U.S. Navy F-18 Hornet and U.S. Air Force A-10 Warthog
Ocean City, MD –The U.S Marine Corps AV-8B Harrier Jump Jet will make a very rare appearance at the 2009 OC Air Show. The Harrier, with its unique ability to take off and land vertically, will make its only waterfront air show appearance of the year in Ocean City.
“We are delighted that the U.S. Marine Corps has chosen Ocean City as one of only 10 air shows in the country to receive a Harrier demo in 2009,” said Bryan Lilley, President of the OC Air Show. “With the addition of the Harrier and the F-18 Hornet from the U.S. Navy we will have demo teams from all five branches of the active duty military service.”
The U.S. Navy recently announced they will support the event with an F-18 Hornet demo. The F-18 is the backbone fighter of the U.S. Navy, most commonly operated from aircraft carriers. The Navy Seals elite “Leap Frogs” parachute team will also perform joining the U.S. Army Golden Knights. The U.S. Air Force will be providing a demo of the A-10 Warthog, affectionatley known as the “Tank Killer” because of its 30mm seven barrel cannon mounted in the nose of the aircraft.
The OC Air Show, headlined by the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, will feature military aircraft demonstrations, low altitude flyovers, parachute team jumps and civilian aerobatic performances over the Ocean City beachfront on June 13-14, 2009 from noon to 4 p.m. The events will be visible along the entire length of the Boardwalk creating an inspiring experience for visitors while they enjoy the resort’s beaches and attractions. Interactive displays and exhibits, including NASA’s Exploration Experience, will be open to the public on the streets surrounding Show Center at 16th Street on the Boardwalk. Show Center Beach, extending from 15th to 17th streets, will offer premium viewing opportunities and the VIP flight line clubhouse for public attendees. Elevated skyboxes located at the Quality Inn Boardwalk, headquarters hotel for the show, and waterfront hospitality chalets on the beach, will be available to businesses and groups.
