New exhibit at Ocean City Life-Saving Station Museum focuses on Boardwalk

            Ocean City, MD - The long awaited exhibit featuring Ocean City's world-famous Boardwalk has opened at the Ocean City Life-Saving Station Museum after more than three years in the making.

            Displays in the new exhibit include photos of nostalgic Boardwalk scenes, souvenirs, game prizes and much more, including the iconic photo booth where visitors could get four photos taken for 25 cents. Other displays include "Windsor Resort: The Trimper Family," a video display featuring an interview with the late Granville Trimper, in which he tells the story of how his grandparents came to Ocean City in 1890 with their 10 children to start a Boardwalk business that is still in existence.

"Prominent Boardwalk Families" showcases four of the families that have had a great influence on the development of the Boardwalk, including the Showells of Showell Bath House, the Townsends who owned Washington Pharmacy among other Boardwalk businesses, the Lynch family of the Commander Hotel and the Dolles, owners and operators of Dolle's Candyland.

The popular "Laughing Sal," the laughing lady, and "Bruno" the bulldog from Jester's Fun House are part of the exhibit complete with sound effects at the push of a button.

An antique wicker rolling chair that was commonly rented on the Boardwalk in the 1920s is also on display.

The Ocean City Life-Saving Station Museum is located on the Boardwalk at the Inlet. Housed in a historic life-saving station, it is one of the oldest structures in Ocean City. The museum is currently open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.  Admission is $3 for adults and $1 for children ages 6-12. Children 5 and under are admitted free. The museum offers free morning programs just outside the museum on the Boardwalk beginning at 10:30 a.m., Monday through Saturday, during the summer.
