We will be staying in OC for Thanksgiving. What restaurants will be serving a Thanksgiving dinner?

Submitted by Dawn W, Middle River Maryland on November 21, 2017

The Horizon Oceanfront restaurant in the Clarion Hotel serves a great Thanksgiving Buffet. It's one of the best places to eat while in Ocean City.

Other options would be Fager's Island or the Captain's Table.

Have a great time at the beach.

Can you drive your car through the Winterfest of lights? My son has cerebral palsy and is in a wheelchair. I have a vehicle that is adapted for his use, if that makes a difference. Thanks!

Submitted by Robin M, Preston Maryland on November 20, 2017

God bless your son.

I'm afraid the answer to your question is no, you cannot drive  your own car through Winterfest. You cannot walk either. But the good news is that the tram, which everyone has to ride, is handicap accessible and your son will be more than welcome.  I hope you and your family have a lovely holiday.

What is the brick castle behind the Greene Turtle?

Submitted by Carolin P, Bethany Delaware on November 15, 2017

That is a privately owned house. It is located on Captains Quarters Road off Jamestown Road.   I believe it was built in the 70's and has been sold once or twice.  The house is all brick and designed on the outside to resemble a castle - the inside has traditional square rooms.  There is also a geodesic home not too far from the castle and there is a house with a movable roof for a telescope on 78th Street.

Hi Insiders! I'm wondering if there is a list of vendors from Springfest and Sunfest that I can access? Thanks!

Submitted by Deb A, Bel air Maryland on November 15, 2017

There is no list of vendors posted online that I have ever been able to find, but the Special Events Group that runs these events may be able to send you one. You can reach them though their website or at 410.250.0125.

Does anyone know when the first vendors receive notification that they were approved for Sunfest? I understand they get a lot of applications, and if you don't hear something by August, you haven't been approved. Just wondering when they start confirming the first vendors. Thanks!

Submitted by Jackie E, Elkridge Maryland on November 13, 2017

Sunfest is a long way off ( September 2018), so I doubt if they've chosen vendors yet. But you can give them a call at 410-289-8221 .  If they can't answer your question, they can direct you to who you need to speak with.

What area would be best for young families, both as a place to stay, as well as for various activities? Thanks!

Submitted by Sheila F, Stuart Florida on November 13, 2017

Most of the hotels are family oriented.  The Quality Inn, Carousel, Clarion and Barefoot Mailman offer fun activities for a family.  The Golden Sands is a great condo complex with myriad activities. Ocean City sponsors many free activities during the summer for families.  A complete list can be found at http://www.ococean.com.  Ocean City is only 10 miles long and less than a mile wide, so nothing is far away.

Where can I find live music on the weekends in OC?

Submitted by James H, Ocean city Maryland on November 13, 2017

This is about the best website for finding out who's playing and where.  http://www.coconuttimes.com/oc-md-whos-where-when

It's updated weekly , so keep checking if you're not going to be in town on the days listed.

And for events and other happenings in OC, check out http://www.ococean.com .  A lot of info there as well.

I’m going to be staying on the Boardwalk during Thanksgiving week. What can I expect to find open?

Submitted by Lani C, San Geronimo Texas on November 13, 2017

I have often been to OC over Thanksgiving week. You will find many restaurants around town open and about half the shops at the south end of the boardwalk open. Boardwalk favorites  Thrasher's Fries, Dumser's ice cream, Fisher's popcorn (my favorite!), Candy Kitchen are often open most weekends all year if the weather is decent and will be open Thanksgiving weekend.

Will there be public transportation from local hotels to the Christmas lights?

Submitted by Laura B, Colora Maryland on November 13, 2017

You can take the bus from anywhere along Coastal Highway to Northside Park at 125th Street to see Winterfest. Cost is $3/person to ride the bus all day. Buses arrive at stops about every 40 minutes at this time of year (more often on weekends). Find out more about the bus here and more about Winterfest here.

I see that the Ferris Wheel is gone. Is that permanent?

Submitted by Don D, Carrollton Missouri on November 13, 2017

No worries. The Ferris wheel is down right now for maintenance and will be back up in the spring.  Ocean City just wouldn't be the same without that icon of the boardwalk.  And the new LED lights on it are so pretty at night. Be sure to take a ride and enjoy the view from the top.
