My wife, two young kids and I are planning to do Thanksgiving in Ocean City this year. Are there restaurants open that late into the season and are any of the boardwalk arcades open?

Craig, there are lots of options for Thanksgiving in Ocean City.  Yes there are many hotels and restaurants that offer packages and fantastic dinners to enjoy.  I can say that there is a high degree of likelihood that the boardwalk arcades will be open.  What their hours will be is unknown at this point.

Thanksgiving is a great time to visit Ocean City. My fellow insiders gave great restaurant ideas. I'll add look for a hotel that has a great indoor pool.

The Hilton, Holiday Inn and the Princess Royal come to mind with great indoor pools.

As Karl said, yes to both!  There are probably 20 dinner options - the Hobbit, Captains Table or the Sunset Grille would be my picks or buffets at the Clarion and Bonfire.  You have lots of good choices.  The arcades are open every day of the year I believe except Christmas.  Several Boardwalk stores will be open to on the weekend.

Good news! You will find plenty to do in OC over Thanksgiving. My family and our 4 kids used to go every year over Thanksgiving, usually arriving Tuesday night and staying until Sunday (We only stopped going once our kids went to college because they wanted to stay home to see their friends). We always found a lot to do. Here are a few ideas:

First of all, yes, the arcades are open. In fact, Marty's Playland (our favorite) s open pretty much everyday all year. Sometimes the look closed because they leave the front doors closed to keep the heat in, but if the front doors are closed you can get in on the north side)

There are also lots of restaurants open. Take a look at this link for ideas of places to eat Thanksgiving Dinner, and this link for other restaurants that will be open.

The boardwalk is open all year, and boardwalk favorites  Thrasher's Fries, Dumser's ice cream, Fisher's popcorn (my favorite!), Candy Kitchen are often open and should be open over Thanksgiving if the weather is decent. Dumser's in West OC is open everyday all year, so sometimes we go there for a treat during the week.

Take a trip down to Assateague. It is only about a 15 minute drive. There is a great Visitor's Center on the right. It has lots of great interactive and touch-type exhibits, and a few short interesting movies about Assateague. You can drive a fair distance on Assateague before entering the fee area and I almost always see the horses in the free area. There are some great short easy hikes in the fee area that you may want to consider if the weather is nice.

Go visit the Art League Gallery at 94th Street. They are open everyday. It's a quick visit, but they have interesting exhibits that change monthly. I go there almost every time I am in OC.

Go bowling at 72nd Street Ocean Lanes. They are open everyday. Call ahead to check for lane availability (410.524.7550), and be aware, they take cash only. We often would go bowling there the day before Thanksgiving.

Play indoor mini golf at one of the two Old Pro Indoor Courses or one of their outdoor courses. They are open everyday at their locations on 68th Street and 136th Street from 10am to 10pm.

Checkout Winterfest of Lights at Northside Park at 125th Street.

Go Ice Skating or see an ice skating show at the Carousel.

Play Laser Tag at Planet Maze (410.524.4386). They usually closed on weekday, but open on weekends.

Get some crabs from Crabs-to-Go to feel a bit more like summer. They have excellent crabs year round.

Go see a movie.

Checkout the interesting shops in nearby Berlin.

Go to the Salisbury Zoo - It is about 30 miles away. It is a nice community zoo, and it is free!

Take a drive to the Delmarva Discovery Center (410.957.9933) to learn about the area's natural and cultural history. It is about 40 miles from OC.

If you like history and it is a nice day, consider a drive up to Fort Miles in Lewis Delaware to see the restored Coastal Defenses and go up in one of the Fire Control Towers for a spectacular view. While you are there, you can shop at the nearby Rehoboth Tanger outlets.

I always recommend staying at a place with an indoor pool in the off season - That way if the weather is poor, you can still enjoy some time in the pool!

Have a great time in OC this November!
