Hi Insiders, I am looking for a reasonable priced place to stay and information on events. We would like to plan a little family trip down it's our first time!

The best place to find out about Events is the OCOCean Events page. Once you are are in town, you can also get all kinds of information on events and things to do from the Visitor Center at the south end of Convention Center at 40th Street.

The best place to start looking for places to stay is the OCOCean Accommodations page.

Some decent, but less expensive hotels/motels I routinely recommend are listed below. I have stayed at most of these places myself, and those I have not stayed at, my family has stayed at.

The Spinnaker (800.638.3244) is right off the boardwalk at 18th Street (ocean block). It is a great property, and being ocean block it  will be bit more affordable. All rooms have balconies with a view of the beach and ocean. They have an outdoor pool. All rooms have kitchenettes. Have a great time in OC!

Comfort Inn Boardwalk (410.289.5155) is nice oceanfront hotel on the boardwalk at 5th Street. They also have an ocean block building that will be less expensive. It is near the south end of the boardwalk where there is tons of action, but far enough north to be not too noisy at night. They have and indoor and outdoor pools and on site parking. My son stayed there a few of summers ago, and he said it was great.

Sahara (800.638.1600) is oceanfront on the boardwalk at 19th Street with ocean block buildings too. An affordable, basic motel that will be clean, but will not have lots of amenities. They have an outdoor pool.

The Flamingo (800.394.7465) is just north of the boardwalk at 31st Street, so it is 4 blocks from the north end of the boardwalk. They have 3 ocean block  buildings that will be more affordable than oceanfront places. They have on-site parking and indoor and outdoor pools.

The Francis Scott Key Resort in West OC that has great water park areas if that is something you would be interested in. They are further from the beach, but may be more affordable, and they run a shuttle on an ongoing basis to the beach (in season)

Windjammer Apartments (410.289.4909) is oceanfront at 46th Street. They have studio, 1BR, 2BR, and 3BR apartments, all with kitchens. I stayed here for many years as a kid. I have great memories of this place, and I'd go back there. It is an older oceanfront place that is kept clean and in good condition, but that does not have a lot of amenities. It has a nice private beach area in front where your toddler can roam around and play in the sand while you sit at their picnic tables and enjoy the beach.

The Castle in the Sand (800.552.7263) at 37th street is a great midtown location. The hotel is ocean front, and they have several buildings and many types of rooms. They have lots of amenities including an outdoor pool. They have rooms with kitchenettes.

Dunes Manor. (800.523.2888) is oceanfront at 28th Street.  It is a great property in a great location and is reasonably priced. My family has often stayed there. When I only recommend one place, this is it. They have an indoor/outdoor pool, all units are oceanfront with balconies, and some units have small kitchenettes. This place will be a bit more expensive than the ones listed abov.

The Holiday Inn and Suites on the boardwalk at 17th Street. They have more of a fancy pool with a slide and some fountains than a water park. This is likely the most expensive place on this list with the most amenities.

If you want a condo, agencies in OC and lots of different properties at a wide range of price points to meet you need. II generally suggest starting by looking at the web listings an then contacting an agent to finalize your rental and seeing if you can find out more about the properties you are considering.

Two realtors I have used and that I routinely recommend are:

    Coldwell Banker:  800.633.1000

    Shoreline Properties: 800.492.5832

Have a great time in OC!

Samantha, I would first suggest you order your vacation guide. It's a great source of information on restaurants, things to do and places to stay.

For accommodations start your search here.

Click here for events and here for things to do.

You can always come back and ask more question, that's what we are here for.

Be sure to look at the whole site:  http://www.ococean.com for rentals and things to do.

also, when checking out a hotel, check out http://www.tripadvisor.com for hotel reviews.

There is do much to do.  Two amusement parks, water parks, arcades, boardwalk, beaches, water sports, restaurants galore, shopping, miniature golf, and more.  Upon arrival, check out the free newspapers and coupons books and guides avaialble almost everywhere.  Also, try going to the OC Convention center on 40th St and COastal Highway.  There is a staffed visitor center that has every brochure, newspaper, and coupon book that exists.  The visitor center is on the left side of the building behind the large SECU ATM.
