What is the best way to go about bringing your dog to OCMD for vacation? Any info or tips about dog-friendly locations or things I can do without leaving my pup locked in a hotel room all day? Any advice is welcomed, thanks!

The best way to have your dog enjoy time at the beach is to visit between 1 October and 30 April when leashed dogs are allowed on the beach and boardwalk. Dogs are not allowed on the OC beach or boardwalk or beach anytime from 1 May to 30 September.

If you want to come in the summer season, leashed dogs are allowed on other OC Streets and in OC's parks, including Northside Park at 127th Street year round..

There is a dog park at 94th Street that you can access for a fee. Dogs using that park must have current vaccinations.

Dogs are not allowed on city buses or the boardwalk tram.

Most rental condo properties do not allow renters to have dogs, but do allow owners to have them.

Dogs are not allowed in most pubic areas of Assateague State Park between Memorial Day weekend and Labor Day. They are allowed in portions of the Assateague National Seashore, but are subject to restrictions. See this site for more info on pets at Assateague Nations Seashore.

In Maryland dogs are only ever allowed in restaurants with outdoor seating. This site lists some restaurants that may allow dogs. I definitely recommend calling ahead to be sure.

There are several hotels where you can stay with your dog. Here are a few of them that I recommend:

The Clarion at 101st Street is a great oceanfront option. It is one of the few dog friendly places open year round.

The La Quinta Inn & Suites on 33rd Street (between Baltimore Avenue and Coastal Highway) is a fairly new hotel that allows pets and is open year round.

The Safari Motel - Ocean front on the boardwalk at 13th Street is one of the few (or only) pet friendly hotels on the boardwalk.

Barefoot Mailman - Ocean block on 35th Street.

Windjammer Apartments - Ocean front, 46th Street. A nice older property with studio, 1BR, 2BR, and 3BR apartments. I stayed there for many years.

Coastal Palms Inn and Suites - Ocean block 120th Street. It was recently taken over by the Carousel and completely redone. It is very nice. Staying here provides access to many of the Carousel's amenities (just 2 blocks away). Also has an outdoor pool and free loaner beach chairs.

Have fun in OC with your dog!

We bring our dog with us.  He loves Ocean City!

Here is a good plan - Start with a walk in the morning around where you stay for 30 minutes.  Then hit the beach for a few hours.  At lunch, come back and take him for another walk.  Before dinner, go to Northside Park for a longer walk and even a swim in the bay.  There are several parks in OC for walks.  I find OC to be very dog friendly.  From a dog's standpoint, there are lots of new smells to pee on and new friends to meet.

Hi Brandon.

Two suggestions:

1. Come between 10/1-4/30 where you and your best friend can do more things together like walk on the beach!

2. Stay at the Barefoot Mailman which caters to pet owners. They will have great suggestions as well!

Enjoy OC with your best friend!

April would be a beautiful time of year to bring you pup because it's generally a decent temperature for enjoying the outdoors and he can still enjoy the boardwalk with lots of other furry friends! If the plan is to come during the summer months though, definitely take advantage of the Dog Park on 94th street. Make sure to read about the dog passes, HERE.

From October 1 until May 1,  you can take your dog anywhere in Ocean City.  But from May1 until October 1, dogs are not permitted on the beach or the boardwalk.  This is an enforced law.  And they must be on a leash at all times when outside of your hotel or condo.  But you can take  your dog to the beach at Assateague.  And there is a dog park/playground on 94th St. Here is the info on that. https://ococean.com/things-to-do/recreational/oc-local-parks-and-playgrounds/

Places like the Residence Inn, the Clarion, the Safari and the Barefoot Mailman and the La Quinta are all pet friendly hotels.

Brandon, unfortunately the summer's rules for pets do make it difficult at time. Pets are not allowed on the beach/boardwalk May 1st to Sept. 30th and must be on a leash at all times. Click here for hotels or condos that are pet friendly.
