Hi Duane.  Great question.  The OC Insiders are a wonderful group of people.  There is a periodic posting telling people how to apply on the Official Ocean City FaceBook page.  Look for it.  You have to write an essay about what you know about Ocean City and your ties to the area.  It is a great group of people and I am proud to be a part of the Insiders.  But, you can act like an Insider just by being a go-to person for questions about Ocean City.  Wishing you sand in your toes and the salt air in your hair.

(There is also a grueling written exam, followed by having to run the entire length of the Boardwalk covered in Thrasher's Fries while juggling four boxes of Fisher's popcorn and hand pulling Dollie's taffy; then you have to swim the entire length of Ocean City while pulling a tuna you caught.  You are then blindfolded and dropped into Ocean City and you have to determine if you are north or south of Seacrets.  You then have find an actual frog at the Frog Bar, find out a secret at Seacrets, find a mockingbird at Tequila Mockingbird, and balance on a rope at Ropewalk.)

Love the town with all of your heart and put Old Bay on everything and you are half way there!

Good question Duane. To be honest I can't really remember how I became an Insider. I just know I'm one of the oldest active member of the program that started back in 2008. The Insiders are a great group of people coming from different areas of the eastern part of United States. We answer questions for people like you to help them enjoy Ocean City just like us. I truly believe this is why our Insiders program was a success back then and as it is today.

To become an Insider I suggest contacting OC Ocean here and maybe someday you can be one of us to.

I became one when I saw a facebook post saying that the OC Insiders needed new insiders! I answered a good amount of questions about my experiences in OC and what I loved about it.  I lived in OC for 3 years in my late 20's and have been there thousands of times.

Keep an eye out on http://www.ococean.com and you never know when the call might be put out again!

Good luck and enjoy OC!

While we answer your questions, the Department of Tourism and their advertising agency, MGH, administer the program and select the Insiders. Your best bet is to write a message to them either through this page or via email to insiders@ococean.com. I suggest including a brief description of your experiences in OC, any OC areas of particular interest or expertise, and your social media / online presence as these are all factors used in selecting Insiders.

Hey Duane, I was able to go through the OC Facebook page and answer some questions about OC. It's been the best for the past few years with a great group of people. I'm from NJ and believe me, you won't find anything else like this.

I was one of the first insiders and I was invited I am guessing because I had a "MySpace" page devoted to Ocean City.  There were two other pages devoted to OC but I had the largest following.  I think the page is still in existence.  It had Ocean City pics, videos, and fun stuff.  I haven't tried logging onto the page for over 10 years.

Hi.  I don't know how the others became Insiders, but I was invited.  I was active on other Ocean City forums and someone noticed, sent me a message, and asked if I would be interested in joining the group. So the best answer I can give you is to be active helping people find places to go and enjoy and maybe even posting on the official Ocean City Facebook page Ocean City, MD - tourism .  You never know. You could be the next to join us!
