Ask an OC Insider
We're coming down in early May. A few random questions - 1) Is Assateague Adventure going to be running trips that early in the season? 2) Are there any places in OCMD we can get nut-allergy safe ice cream? Thanks in advance!Submitted by Ellen S, Hagerstown MD on April 15, 2019
Another ice cream place to try is Dodo's. They have ice cream and eatable cookie dough. I believe they have nut-free and gluten free options on their menu.
1. It is hard to know for sure when most places in OC will open and what their schedule will be, including the Assateague Adventure. Their website says they start running on 17 May. Call them at 410.289.3500 to see if they will be running at all when you are in town.
2. For nut safe ice cream, most places will have nut-safe ice cream, frozen custard, and similar items, but unfortunately they also serve nuts on their sundaes and won't guarantee there is no cross-contamination. You may want to call Rita's at 41st Street (410.524.2875) or Dumser's (410.524.1588) to see if they can meet you need. They both have sundaes with nuts, but they may be able to help you. Khor Brothers an Dumser's do soft-serve directly from the machine, which limits, but does not eliminate, the risk of cross contamination.
Hey Ellen. Yes, on May 17th is when they start taking trips so I'd come on and check it out. Or you may also drive over as well. I'd try Dumers. They are really great with nut allergies so try them while you're down.
Hi. According to their website, the Assateague Adventure begins running May 17th. with 3 trips per day. Of course, that's weather permitting.
As for the ice cream, I would recommend asking the ice cream vendor. I've never seen soft serve with nuts in it, so that may be your safe choice.
