In May 2019, where can a handicapped vehicle park for free at the 2nd St. Free Fishing Area? If not, where are some other locations where I can park for free with handicap tags?Submitted by Nancy G, Selbeyville DE on May 9, 2019
There is free handicapped parking at the end of most streets both bayside and oceanblock. I would look for the Handicap signs to locate the parking. I know there is some on 4th Street.
Here is the deal. Vehicles with handicap credentials can park for up to one hour in this area for free. If you stay more than 1 hour, the cost is $2/hour. The spots along Chicago Avenue adjacent to the free fishing area have this fee. However, the north end of the free fishing area is at 4th Street. I believe (but check the signs to be sure!) that parking on 4th Street (and north) near the bay is free at all times. There are not any handicap-marked parking spots at the west end of 4th Street, but you may be able to park near the fishing area. You can get more info about OC parking here.
Be sure to check the signs where you park to ensure there is no pay-to-park for that spot. I believe the info I gave you above is correct, but sometimes specific parking zones shift.
