What is the best way to Ocean City from Gettysburg PA to avoid construction on the Bay Bridge?Submitted by Kim W, Gettysburg PA on October 8, 2019
I live in Hanover, Pa (15 minutes from Gettysburg) and I know there is some construction going now on the bay bridge that is delaying travel times over the bridge. My opinion I would still take the bay bridge but avoid peak travel times like very early or travel at night.
Gettysburg is far enough north that you can avoid the Bay Bridge without adding to much distance or time to you trip. Here is the route I suggest:
Take PA Route 97 South PA Route 140 South to I-795 South to the Baltimore Beltway (I-695).
Take I-795 Exit 1A from I-795 to get on I-695 East towards Towson. Continue on I-695 to Exit 33 where you will get onto I-95 North towards New York. Continue on I-95 North into Delaware; you will be on I-95 for a total of about 52 miles. A few miles after the toll plaza, get off I-95 North at Exit 4A onto Delaware Route 1 South (towards Dover).
Take Delaware Route 1 South to Milford, DE where you get on US Route 113 South.Continue on Route 113 South into MD.
If you are going to midtown or northern OC, get off 113 onto MD Route 90 East and take it to OC. If you are going to the south end of OC, continue in 113 to to Route 50 East. Both Route 90 East and Route 50 East end in Ocean City.
Note that both I-95 and DE Route 1 have tolls.
This route adds about 30 miles and 20 minutes to your route compared to the typical route from Gettysburg to OC over the Bay Bridge.
It is an easy and direct drive. You need to take I-95 North to Route 1 South in Delaware. General directions are as follows:
Take MD 97S to I795 S
Take I795S to I695 E To I95N towards New York
Take I95N to Route 1 S in Delaware; Route 1 is Coastal Highway in Ocean City.
You can use any GPS program for specific roads and turns, just select the route using I95 N.
