Ask an OC Insider
Hi, I am wondering if any of the boardwalk stores, such as the Nut House, are open in the off-season. I am currently here and staying until Wednesday.Submitted by China H, Louisa Virginia on March 24, 2015
China,Ocean City really doesn't have an "off-season" any longer..... they enjoy what's called a "second season"..... what that means is that less and less businesses close up for the "season" after Labor Day.... while you'll find the outdoor rides, some restaurants, motels/hotels and merchants do close for the season, you'll find that the number of those businesses closing down tight for several months declining rapidly. That being said, I have no idea if the Nut House is open or closed or open for special hours only.... you'll have to give them a call 410-289-5222
Hard to say if the place will be open, but great advise by fellow insiders. On the weekends many things will open up and this weekend is sorta a big weekend for people to open up their homes for the season because next week is Easter and often times people like to come down for that. I know I'm coming down and will be cruising the boardwalk ! Enjoy and bundle up in the mornings.... I hear it will be chilly.
More stores are beginning to open. I suggest taking a stroll along the boardwalk and I am sure you will find some open!
My best advice to you is to rent a bicycle and ride the boardwalk to see what's open. I do know that Thrasher's Fries and Fisher's Popcorn are open on the weekends until 3 p.m. And Fisher's has another location around Fenwick if you're hungry for popcorn. There are Candy Kitchens open around town as well.
At this time of year, what stores are open will be open on the weekends and during the daytime. However, run over to west OC to the outlet mall and up and down Coastal highway to find more place open. Alos, check out the Gold Coast Mall up on 115th St for places open.
Many boardwalk stores are open in the off season, but mostly on weekends. Thrasher's Fishers, and Candy Kitchen are open almost every weekend all year round, and sometimes on weekends at this time of year if the weather is nice
At this point in the season it is hit or miss. Several stores - Fishers, Candy Kitchen, the arcades, Thrashers - are open all year long. In April, many stores will usually open in the weekend and during the week if it is warm. We were on the Boardwalk two weeks ago and found about 10% of the stores open. I would go for a stroll and see what is open.
