- The smoking rules apply to cigarettes, cigars, pipes, e-cigarettes, and any other matter or substance that contains tobacco.

The environmental advantages of keeping these areas smoke-free are numerous. Cigarette butts are the most commonly littered item on beaches worldwide, and their presence can harm marine life and pollute the ocean. Furthermore, secondhand smoke can cause respiratory issues in both humans and animals, making it essential to keep the air smoke-free. By prohibiting smoking on the beach and Boardwalk, Ocean City helps reduce litter, prevent health problems, and ensure that the environment remains healthy and enjoyable for everyone.
Please keep in mind, the Ocean City Beach Patrol will not be responsible for enforcing the smoking rules. Safety is a top priority and their eyes will remain on the ocean at all times. Therefore, voluntary compliance is expected.
